About The Position
The Exterior Gardener is primarily responsible for the day-to-day gardening and horticulture operations to ensure that all outdoor landscape areas are well-maintained and visually appealing. This role is crucial in maintaining the MGM Resorts International (MGMRI) standards of service to guests and coworkers. The gardener will engage in various tasks including planting and transplanting flowers, shrubs, trees, and hedges, as well as expertly pruning to maintain shape and promote growth. Adequate watering will be performed based on weather conditions, location, and specific plant requirements. The gardener will also be responsible for weeding, fertilizing, and monitoring plant nutrition in flower beds and other plant areas, applying chemicals as needed while adhering to safety guidelines and regulations. Proper horticultural practices and industry standards must be exercised at all times. In addition to planting and maintenance, the Exterior Gardener will install irrigation systems to ensure proper watering of plants, manage drainage, and maintain soil composition. Monitoring and controlling pests and diseases to prevent damage to plants is also a key responsibility. The gardener will clean and maintain outdoor spaces, which includes tasks such as rock application, raking, blowing, washing, and similar activities. The role requires the proper use of a variety of manual hand tools such as rakes, hand saws, pruning shears, shovels, hoes, fertilizer spreaders, pesticide sprayers, sod knives, and hedge shears. Furthermore, the gardener will operate specialized power and motorized equipment including blowers, hedge trimmers, light tractors, lawnmowers, chainsaws, and rototillers. Driving and operating company vehicles, trailers, and/or specialized carts to travel between properties and transport materials and equipment is also part of the job. The gardener will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining gardening tools, equipment, and supply areas to ensure they are in good working condition. Following MGMRI policies and procedures for mobile devices, including work order creation, response, and completion, is essential. Regular inspections of the work area to identify and report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the supervisor or management are also required.
