About The Position

The mission of the University of Idaho Extension 4-H Youth Development Program is to help youth acquire knowledge, life skills, and attitudes that enhance their lives. The 4-H Program Assistant will work with University of Idaho Extension faculty and staff to organize, schedule, and deliver programming for Elmore County. Program sites will include (but limited to) schools, afterschool, recreation, and summer programs. The goal of this program is to provide educational activities to support underserved and unserved youth targeting ages 5-13 throughout Elmore County. 4-H Program Assistant will work with multiple community partners in Elmore County to identify core topics youth will engage in. These programs can be provided as one-time activities or in a series to allow youth the opportunity to explore different 4-H programs and to meet the needs and interests of our youth and community partners. 4-H programs can include STEM, literacy, creative arts, business and citizenship, environmental and outdoor education, food and kitchen science, first-aid, college and career readiness, exploring different cultures, family and consumer science topics, leadership, mindfulness, financial literacy, physical education/activity, or other research-based 4-H and Extension curriculums.

Requirements

  • Experience organizing and teaching innovative and effective educational programs.
  • Experience working in a team.
  • Experience with problem-solving skills, conflict management, relationship building and leadership development.
  • Experience with computer literacy and written communication skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent general educational development (GED) certification with course work in general office skills; AND
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in youth development/teaching; OR
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform educational youth development.

  • Experience teaching/training through the 4-H Youth Development program or other youth programs.
  • Experience working effectively with social media platforms.
  • Experience networking with community organizations/agencies to deliver or partner on youth programs.
  • Self-motivated, takes initiative, and comfortable speaking publicly and teaching youth.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and teach 4-H youth activities throughout Elmore County (85%)
  • Coordinating 4-H county programming for out of school time activities (including planning, implementing, and evaluating high quality educational youth programs that may include delivery methods such as day camps, afterschool, in-school enrichment, short term and special events).
  • Developing 4-H activities (both short and long term) with school districts in Elmore County.
  • Developing and implementing events for youth in the community designed to deliver high-quality educational programming to youth ages 5-13.
  • Planning, implementing, and evaluating workshops for youth using 4-H and Extension curriculum in educational settings and managing subsequent events and activities as needed.
  • Facilitating the delivery of a quality 4-H program consistent with the mission and vision of the Idaho 4-H Program in Elmore County.
  • Reaching underserved audiences with 4-H activities and events.
  • Reporting such efforts consistent with civil rights reporting requirements.
  • Assisting the 4-H Program Coordinator in managing the 4-H Program in Elmore County (15%)
  • Assist in providing leadership for training and supervising volunteers.
  • Providing specific project training as appropriate when necessary.
  • Support the 4-H Program Coordinator with leadership for the Elmore County Fair – collaborating with staff, leaders, and fair personnel to plan and implement 4-H activities, contests, shows, and awards ceremonies.
  • Assist in organizing and advising local 4-H clubs and volunteer leaders in organizational skills, personal development skills of youth and adults, and policies of the state and county 4-H program.
  • Assisting 4-H Program Coordinator, 4-H leaders councils, and standing committees in planning, implementing, and promoting county, district and state 4-H activities and events as assigned.
  • Reporting all 4-H activities and contacts in the Digital Measures reporting system.
  • Performs clerical and administrative duties in an office setting as assigned or needed.
