The Human Resources Department is collecting applications for those interested in serving as a Paraprofessional for Extended School Year (ESY) for Summer 2026. What is Extended School Year (ESY)? ESY services are individualized special education and/or related services that are uniquely designed to provide a free appropriate public education (FAPE) to a student with disabilities. ESY services are provided beyond the normal school year of a school district — that includes both the days of the school year and the hours of the school day. Program Details The ESY program runs four days a week (Monday-Thursday) in the months of June 2026 (Work Day May 29, Students June 1-25). Work Times: 8:00am-12:00pm (Student Contact Hours 8:30am-11:30am) Locations: Pre-K through 6th at Henry Leavenworth Elementary and 7-12th Grade at Leavenworth High School Compensation USD453 employees working ESY in their normal position (a teacher working as a teacher or paraprofessional working as a paraprofessional) will receive their normal hourly rate from the previous school year. In the instance that a certified teacher is working in the role of a paraprofessional, their hourly rate will be $12/hour. A classified staff member is not eligible to work as a certified Teacher unless they are a certified teacher with the state of Kansas. In this case, they must present their valid teaching license to the Human Resources Department prior to beginning their ESY duties. All employees, including certified staff, are required to fill out timesheets for ESY duties. Selection The Special Education Department will do their best to have assignments set by the beginning of May. At that time the Human Resources Department will issue a letter of intent to the employee with the assignment, location, work dates, pay information, and any other details specific to their assignment.
