JOB SUMMARY: The Extended Day Instructor will work with the SUN Site Supervisor and Extended Day Coordinator to provide opportunities for enrichment classes and activities after school. In addition the program occasionally provides opportunities for activities during school in-service days and evening family opportunities. Working hours are Monday through Thursday from 2:00pm - 5:30 pm.

Requirements

  • Any combination of experience and training that would likely meet the following requirements
  • Experience providing academic and recreational activities to students in after school environments.
  • Experience working with school-aged children from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Specific areas of expertise that you are passionate about and eager to share with students, such as (but not limited to): art, cooking/nutrition, dance, creative writing, environmental science, foreign language, geography, LEGO Robotics, team sports, ultimate Frisbee, etc.
  • Desire and ability to work with children to ensure an enriching, positive, and safe classroom setting.
  • Ability to effectively work within a strength-based, integrated youth support service delivery system.
  • Ability to document work continually and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Possess strong organizational and time-management skills and ability to prioritize and complete multiple and varied tasks.
  • Sensitivity and ability to relate to people from diverse lifestyles, socioeconomic levels, and cultures.
  • Willingness to work as a team member and support the mission and goals of Impact NW.
  • Must be able to complete and pass an Oregon Background check including fingerprinting prior to start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity/experience with Microsoft Office software and basic computer programs.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and culturally responsive teaching.
  • Bilingual (specifically Spanish, Laotian, Russian).

Responsibilities

  • Teach or assist instructors in after-school activity classes.
  • Supervise groups of 10-15 children, ages 11-14.
  • Track and ensure academic and development of students.
  • Act as a positive role-model for students.
  • Participate and implement program safety to ensure students are in a safe environment.
  • Develop curriculum for activity classes.
