About The Position

Being an Expressive Therapist involves planning and carrying out Recreation, Music, Art, Drama and/or Dance Therapy to help improve clients' physical, cognitive, social, and emotional skills. You will also help with daily living and community interaction skills. Occasionally, you may oversee students in Expressive Therapy with some independence.

Requirements

  • Degree in Recreation, Music, Art, Drama or Dance Therapy.
  • Current certification in your field or obtain it within 6 months.
  • Basic Life Support (BCLS) or Heart Savers certification within 60 days.
  • Strong communication skills to lead therapy sessions.
  • Ability to document and complete required reports.
  • Complete required training for ongoing employment.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of experience in Artistic Expressive Therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Assess & Treat Clients: Work with doctors to create therapy plans, track progress, and adjust as needed.
  • Plan & Lead Programs: Organize group and individual therapy sessions in your specialty area.
  • Team Collaboration: Join team meetings to discuss client progress and share updates on therapy plans.
  • Teamwork: Participate in team meetings and help with department planning.
  • Maintain Environment: Keep therapy equipment in good condition and ensure a clean, safe environment.
  • Supervision: Help supervise interns, assistants, and volunteers.
  • Professional Development: Stay updated on certifications and advances in the field.
  • Quality & Safety: Support improvements in staff safety and patient care, and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
  • Age-Appropriate Care: Provide therapy that suits the patient’s age and meets their physical and emotional needs.
  • Communication: Always be polite, helpful, and professional to patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Compliance: Follow all guidelines, regulations, and ethical standards related to the job.
