About The Position

Friends Hospital is the nation's oldest private psychiatric hospital, located on a beautiful 100-acre campus in Philadelphia, PA. Friends Hospital offers a continuum of care including level of care assessments; specially designed inpatient units for adolescents, adults, and older adults; and a private residential rehabilitation program. Friends Hospital is easily accessed via public transportation and has free, safe, on-site parking. The position of Expressive Arts Therapist involves performing duties and responsibilities as required as a member of the Treatment Team in delivering direct patient care services. Under the direction of the Director of Recreational Therapy, the therapist creates a therapeutic milieu on the inpatient service, plans and coordinates the implementation of specific treatment programs for individual patients and patient groups, and assures the application of age-appropriate expressive therapies modalities to group or individual treatment. The therapist identifies and utilizes specific theoretical frameworks to guide and integrate care within the milieu, organizes and coordinates or directs unit-based psychotherapeutic services delivered in a group context, contributes to the development and implementation of treatment plans and goals as determined by the unit team, and functions as a member of the Clinical Services team. Additionally, the therapist participates in the support of patient care through indirect care functions including clerical duties, participates in Performance Improvement and in-service education, oversees the coordination and conduct of clinical affiliations for expressive therapies students, and supports development, customer service, and community relations activities.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Expressive Therapy preferred.
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Expressive Therapy.
  • 3-5 years’ direct clinical experience in a behavioral health facility.
  • Prefer certification in specific discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct patient care services as a member of the Treatment Team.

  • Oversee the coordination and conduct of clinical affiliations for expressive therapies students.
  • Support development, customer service, and community relations activities.
