About The Position

Export Compliance Manager Murfreesboro, TN Description Barrett is seeking an experienced Export Compliance Manager to serve as the company’s Empowered Official. This role is responsible for implementing, overseeing, and continuously improving Barrett’s export compliance program to ensure full compliance with all applicable U.S. export regulations. About the Role Serve as Barrett’s Empowered Official, overseeing all day-to-day export operations and international shipment activities in full compliance with ITAR, EAR, OFAC, and other applicable export control regulations. Develop, implement, document, and continuously improve export compliance policies, processes, and procedures, ensuring accurate import/export records and audit-ready documentation. Prepare, submit, and manage export license applications and authorizations with the U.S. Department of State (DDTC) and Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), including export authorizations for foreign national employees and foreign visitors, and administration of Technology Control Plans (TCPs). Lead internal export compliance audits and risk assessments; conduct denied party screening; monitor regulatory changes; and implement corrective actions to maintain regulatory adherence. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (sales, engineering, logistics, legal) to embed compliance into daily operations, manage international tenders and military contract export requirements, and support new international business opportunities. Serve as the subject matter expert for export control regulations by delivering training programs, supporting vetting of international agents and partners, maintaining communication with carriers and vendors, resolving shipment issues, and ensuring adherence to company policies and industry compliance standards. About You You are a detail-oriented export compliance professional with deep knowledge of ITAR, EAR, and OFAC regulations and the confidence to serve as an Empowered Official. You bring strong judgment, a proactive mindset, and the ability to build and strengthen compliance programs in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You communicate effectively across departments, lead with integrity, and take ownership of ensuring regulatory excellence in every international transaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or minimum of 4 years’ experience in related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of ITAR, EAR, ATF regulations, OFAC sanctions, and DDTC requirements, specifically as they apply to firearms, ammunition, and controlled technical data.
  • Proven ability to prepare, submit, and manage export licenses, agreements (TAAs, MLAs), exemptions, and commodity jurisdiction requests with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying export control risks, conducting internal compliance audits, and implementing corrective and preventive actions to mitigate violations.
  • Ability to partner effectively with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, legal, sales, and leadership to ensure compliance without disrupting business operations, and to manage internal investigations, voluntary disclosures, and direct communication with ATF and other regulatory agencies.
  • Meticulous attention to detail in maintaining compliant export records, audit trails, and documentation in accordance with federal retention requirements; must maintain a valid driver’s license and eligibility to work with firearms under state and federal guidelines.
