In this role, you will provide critical support to Forensic Engineers and expert witnesses engaged in complex litigation and dispute resolution matters. You will manage project delivery, support legal and technical writing, and serve as a key liaison between clients, experts, and internal teams. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer with strong writing skills and a consulting mindset to work at the intersection of engineering, law, and business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • 10+ years of combined experience in engineering and project management roles
  • Strong technical and legal writing skills with proven ability to edit complex reports.
  • Proven experience determining and implementing the right project management structure or methodology.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and client‑facing communication skills
  • Eligibility to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting expert witness or forensic engineering matters
  • Familiarity with U.S. litigation processes and expert reporting standards
  • Professional certifications such as EIT/FE, PE, or PMP
  • Experience with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet) and collaboration platforms (SharePoint, Teams)

Responsibilities

  • Manage single‑ and multi‑expert engagements from initiation through close‑out, ensuring deliverables meet client expectations and court deadlines
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, including milestones, dependencies, and resource allocation
  • Track budgets, monitor financial performance, and assist with invoicing and cost control
  • Coordinate logistics for site inspections, evidence collection, and risk assessments
  • Prepare and distribute progress reports, status updates, and meeting summaries
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality standards and client‑specific requirements
  • Draft, edit, and review expert reports, declarations, rebuttal statements, and supporting exhibits
  • Apply consistent formatting, style guides, and legal standards to ensure clarity and accuracy
  • Collaborate with experts to translate complex technical findings into clear, persuasive narratives
  • Coordinate peer reviews and maintain version control for all deliverables
  • Develop and maintain report templates and standardized document frameworks
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients on assigned matters
  • Support proposal development, including scopes of work, timelines, and fee estimates
  • Assist with negotiation of terms of appointment and client onboarding
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive engagement
  • Represent HKA at client meetings, industry events, and networking opportunities
  • Assist with sourcing, vetting, and onboarding Independent Consulting Experts (ICEs)
  • Manage project‑specific agreements, timesheets, and contractual compliance
  • Maintain ongoing communication with ICEs regarding deliverables and timelines
  • Organize training sessions, workshops, and knowledge‑sharing initiatives
  • Support continuous improvement of consultant engagement processes
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve reporting and delivery processes
  • Contribute to internal knowledge management and documentation of best practices
  • Support discipline leads with pipeline visibility, resource planning, and risk mitigation
  • Escalate issues promptly and collaborate on solutions
