About The Position

This position is responsible for the provision of comprehensive quality therapy services (recreational, art or music) for psychiatric inpatients. This entails providing appropriate group therapy sessions to a variety of patient populations. Initial assessments of patients’ strengths and needs are required and daily documentation of therapeutic engagement. Experiential Therapists provide assessments and integrate appropriate therapeutic interventions for assigned patient population; meeting the cognitive, functional, and expressive needs of patients. Works collaboratively with select volunteers, Interns, students, physicians, nurses, therapeutic assistants and treatment team members to achieve therapeutic shared goals. Provides training, orientation, and education of staff: occupational/recreation/music/art therapy interns and other students associated with Psychiatry. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Art, Music or Recreation Therapy, Psychology or related field.
  • May accept certification in activity therapy with appropriate experience
  • Certification in Basic Life Support required
  • Certification in de-escalation training within the orientation period for employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification by the Board of Music Therapy (MT-BC)
  • Art therapist registration (ATR) by the American Art Therapy Association
  • Credentialed as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) preferred.
