About The Position

J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers is looking for experienced welder-fabricators who set up and operate equipment to manufacture fabricated metal components for products such as truck bodies, trailers, specialty vehicles, and related subassemblies—custom carbon steel and aluminum fabrications using the GMAW and FCAW processes.

Requirements

Vocational/technical training needed or a high school diploma or general education degree with work experience in an industrial setting.
Minimum of 5 years related experience

Nice To Haves

The ability to build small items without drawings/blueprints is a plus.

Responsibilities

Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by training or by foreman.
Starts the power supply to produce an electric current.
Cleans or degreases weld joints or workpieces.
Prepares objects for welding by grinding surfaces.
Positions and clamps work pieces together or assemble them in a jig or fixture.
Fit up simple assemblies
Preheat the workpiece if/when required.
Strikes (forms) arc to melt and deposit metal from the electrode to the workpiece and join the edges of the workpiece.
Manually guides gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
Examine the weld for bead size and other specifications.
Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
Ability to operate a press, shear, and saw.
The ability to build small items without drawings/blueprints is a plus.
Ability to work with different metals and build a variety of different types of assemblies.
Set up and adjust the welder, and perform routine maintenance such as replacing spools of wire & changing out liners.
Safely operate all lifting devices such as overhead & jib cranes and forklift trucks when authorized & adequately trained.
Safely perform duties, always wearing the required PPE
