For decades, the Precision Engagement Systems organization has designed and produced precision-guided weapon systems that defend our nation and support more than 30 allied countries. The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization is seeking an Experienced Software Project Engineer in St. Charles, MO . to lead Operational Flight Program (OFP) software teams supporting Cruise Missile Systems (CMS) and Direct Attack (DA) weapons. The role balances technical leadership with program-level accountability—coordinating cross-functional teams, managing the software development lifecycle, and ensuring fielded software meets rigorous performance, safety, and schedule requirements. As a Software Project Engineer, you will l ead and coordinate technical execution for OFP software teams and related integration activities, owning Cost Account Management (CAM) for your assigned software work by overseeing budgets, monitoring earned value performance, and delivering objective forecasts. You will maintain and defend the performance measurement baseline by collecting timely cost and schedule data and computing key Earned Value Management (EVM) indicators (CPI, SPI , ETC , EAC ), identify root causes for variances, drive corrective actions and re‑planning, and keep leadership and stakeholders informed. Collaborate closely with systems engineering, test, QA, and supply chain to ensure software is delivered on schedule, within scope, and on budget, and mentor early‑career engineers to foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and technical rigor. We’re looking for candidates with demonstrated experience managing software programs or major workstreams in aerospace, defense, or other high‑reliability domains; strong working knowledge of the software development lifecycle, configuration management, and integration/test practices for embedded or flight software; proven ability to lead earned value management (EVM) processes and produce clear, reliable program forecasts; excellent communication skills for presenting technical and programmatic status to teams and senior leadership; and a collaborative mindset with a track record of working across engineering, manufacturing, and business teams to solve complex problems.

  • Provides the Engineering leadership to a team representing multiple skill areas, which may include internal and external resources and customers.
  • Develops statement of work (SOW) to satisfy research and development, ongoing and new business requirements.
  • Works with customers and management to obtain approval.
  • Identifies and manages changes to statement of work and assesses the impact of those changes and incorporates changes into statement of work.
  • Using a variety of media, clearly conveys information and ideas to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message.
  • Lead team scrums to define product vision, roadmap, and growth opportunities, and communicate with stakeholders throughout the project.
  • Collaborate with internal and external contacts to analyze needs and align product roadmap to strategic goals.
  • Work closely with product managers and business teams to create and maintain product backlog according to business value or ROI.
  • Remain up to date on trends and best practices for agile project management.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers, both written and in person via presentations, TIMS, PDRs, CDRs and final reports.
  • Prepare documents such as Monthly status reports, TIM presentations, PDR & CDR reviews.
  • Collaborate with fellow technical teammates on technical approaches inline to contractual CDRLs and provide EVM status if needed.
  • Monitor project budgets and lead programs to successful outcomes.

  • Experience as a Cost Account Manager (CAM)
  • 1+ years of Earned Value Management (EVM) experience
  • 5+ years of experience in product development
  • 5+ years of experience in program management, project management, engineering, and/or training services
  • 3+ years using Excel to perform data analysis
  • 3+ years editing PDF and Word files
  • Experience using agile methodology
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
