The Cardiac Surgery Unit is an eight bed critical care that serves the patients who have undergone cardiac/vascular surgery. The area serves the immediate post-operative patient and cardiac/vascular surgery patients requiring continuous critical care interventions.

Requirements

• A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
• ASN required, BSN preferred.
• ACLS certification preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of RN experience is required.
• CVICU/Critical Care experience preferred.
• Ability to assess, plan, direct, intervene and evaluate patient care.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities

• Provide monitoring and care of patients with potentially severe physiological instability requiring technical and/or artificial life support.
• Administer simple medications and treatments to complex intensive monitoring of unstable patients.
• Perform intensive monitoring which may include ventilator support, continuous vasoactive medication infusions, and ventricular assist devices.
• Participate in professional development programs through mentoring and opportunities for leadership.
