About The Position

Inova is looking for experienced Respiratory Therapists to join the team. This is a full-time, night shift role (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.). Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance eligible. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited CoARC (The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) respiratory care program.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) and eligible to sit for the NBRCAP.
  • Basic Life Support from American Heart Association.
  • RT License and eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months in a critical care environment or one or more years of specialized training in advanced diagnostics/pulmonary rehab as a practicing respiratory therapist.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) OR more than 10 years of experience as a Certified Respiratory Therapist as defined by the NBRC.
  • Advanced Certifications (ACLS, PALS or NRP) must be obtained within one year from date of hire.
  • Two years in a critical care environment.
  • Advanced certifications (ACCS, AEC, NPS, RPFT, CPFT or SDS) OR a relevant bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities

  • Administers advanced respiratory therapeutic interventions (e.g., heliox, nitric oxide, CNB, Chest Wall Oscillation, etc.).
  • Establishes and manages basic mechanical ventilation with commonly used ventilators with high proficiency and minimal-to-no-supervision.
  • Formulates a sound plan-of-care for patients based on diagnostics data, response-to-therapy, and the physiologic profile.
  • Routinely refines the ventilator care plan and communicates to the patient care team.
  • Educates and trains patients and/or family members.
  • Performs basic clinical assessments of the cardiopulmonary system.
  • Occasionally performs more thorough, advanced cardiopulmonary clinical assessments.
  • Performs weaning mechanic with high proficiency.
  • Meets Clinical Ladder core requirement criteria.
  • Documents according to protocols and/or charting templates.
  • Supports the advancement of the respiratory care profession by participating in one system, hospital, department, or professional initiative.
  • Takes an active and positive role in training, educating and orienting team members and students.
