About the position

As an Experienced Product Development Chemist - Coil Coatings, you will be responsible for customer facing development opportunities in coil-applied coatings for the Building Materials and Transportation markets. As a chemist with us, you will work closely with sales managers in support of key customers while thoughtfully applying formulation expertise in a high-energy environment that encourages your growth! The development chemist plays a key role in color and other formula design, product preparation and application, and the testing of coatings against a wide range of specifications and requirements. In this role you will work on-site at our Springdale, PA Facility and report directly to the Coil Customer Support Team Technical Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute ideas for innovative new coating systems and application processes
  • Plan and conduct experimental work (coatings formulation, application, testing)
  • Analyze and interpret experimental results to facilitate problem resolution and new product development
  • Work closely with customers to understand their product needs
  • Collaborate with R&D and/or other functions both local and global
  • Guide new products from lab into production working closely with Manufacturing and/or related areas
  • Communicate and ensure recordkeeping through written/verbal summaries, reports, and presentations to both internal and external customers
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the coatings business and share that knowledge with other associates
  • Address customer complaints/concerns through root cause analysis and/or formulation changes
  • Provide critical input for ongoing technology maintenance

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or greater in a Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering required
  • Three (3) or more years of proven laboratory experience with a demonstrated track record in coatings preferred
  • Prior knowledge of coatings formulation is preferred
  • Knowledge of experimental design (DOE) and complex problem solving preferred
  • Experience in managing technical projects with multiple stakeholders
