About The Position

CAL FIRE Local 2881 (Local 2881) is a non-profit labor union that represents and protects the interests of CAL FIRE employees. CAL FIRE is the largest all-risk fire department in California, and our 8000+ members are among the best-trained firefighters in the world and proudly serve as first responders in communities throughout the state. As their union, Local 2881 advocates for our members on multiple fronts. The legal team's focus is on labor and employment law matters, including contract enforcement, personnel matters, administrative proceedings, and general employer-employee relations. Local 2881 seeks a full-time, mid-level, experienced paralegal to join our in-house legal department in Sacramento, CA. Requirements

  • 5+ years' experience as a paralegal.
  • Qualified to work as a paralegal under Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code 6450.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in labor, employment, and/or administrative law.
  • Litigation experience.
  • Experience working cooperatively with people from a variety of backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in representing union members in administrative proceedings, primarily focusing on disciplinary matters and other personnel actions.
  • Draft, edit, and file legal documents and administrative filings.
  • Gather, review, organize, and analyze case documents.
  • Assist in researching and responding to various legal inquiries.
  • Interact with outside agencies (such as CAL FIRE's Labor Relations office and state agencies handling labor and employment matters).
  • Regularly communicate with union officers and members.
  • Conduct legal research using Westlaw and web-based research for publicly available information.
  • Track and add to deadlines.
  • Assist in maintaining and enforcing union trademarks.
  • Communicate with and assist outside counsel.
  • Provide administrative support and other job duties as assigned.
