About The Position

The Boeing Company BDS is seeking Nondestructive Evaluation Engineers to join their Midwest Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) and Fleet Support team, part of the BDS Engineering department, in Berkeley, MO. The team supports a wide range of space, commercial, and defense air vehicles programs, including 787, 777X, F-15, F-18, and various other platforms. This engineering team is responsible for NDE Engineering support across pre-production, current production, and post-production phases. Key activities include supplier standup/certification, fabrication support/trouble-shooting, and fleet support. Additionally, the team conducts NDE research and development for both internal and external customers. The team operates from Huntsville, AL; Oklahoma City, OK; and St. Louis, MO, with the selected candidate specifically supporting the St. Louis, MO location. The role involves applying and developing NDE methods, sensor technology, and testing systems, defining requirements for tools and processes, ensuring compliance, and providing technical guidance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in NDE/NDT engineering in a regulated industry (e.g., aerospace, defense, energy)
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics
  • Experience with nondestructive evaluation processes (e.g., ultrasonic testing, radiography, eddy current testing, and penetrant inspection)
  • Experience working in multi-discipline teams, a strong desire to work with technical and non-technical customers
  • Strong understanding of materials behavior, stress analysis, and fracture mechanics
  • Experience with project management tools
  • Excellent time management skills to manage several simultaneous projects effectively and across various geographical locations
  • Active / Current Secret U.S. Security Clearance preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Apply nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods/approaches, such as acoustic, electromagnetic, thermal, optical and radiologic principles, in developing new and novel methods/approaches to address affordability and supportability objectives
  • Develop new sensor technology and testing systems for nondestructive evaluation (NDE) applied to manufacturing and support areas
  • Define requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and maintenance of products and approve their use
  • Lead development of specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes
  • Maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations
  • Evaluate emerging technologies for potential application to address business needs
  • Leads development, validation and qualification of new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
  • Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
  • Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas
  • Ensure compliance with industry codes, standards, and customer requirements (ASNT, ASTM, AWS, ASME, ISO, etc.)
  • Support audits, root cause analyses, and failure investigations as a subject matter expert
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians
  • Supports the Team Lead and work statement, assist defining strategies and/or provides consultation
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time minimum
