About The Position

Performs a variety of manual construction tasks involving pipe work for roads, highways and heavy construction projects under the direction of a crew foreman.

Requirements

• High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Two (2) years recent experience working as Hillman (road construction), or equivalent experience.
• Active Driver’s license.
• Able to operate a variety of tools/equipment such as hand tools and power tools.
• Able to listen, follow directions, and have a willingness to continue to enhance skills.
• Able to communicate effectively with jobsite supervisor and co-workers.
• General knowledge of road construction processes.
• Demonstrate a safety first attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures.
• Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
• Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary.
• Must have reliable transportation, and ability to travel to assigned worksites.

Responsibilities

• Cut, measure, and hook pipes.
• Support the pipe installation process by supplying materials, tools and equipment to the trench.
• Assist with pre-assembly of pipe on the top of the hill.
• Mix mortar and concrete for manholes.
• Load, unload, or distribute materials, machinery, or tools to and from designated locations.
• Use picks, shovels, and rakes to level earth or asphalt to grade specifications.
• Position or dismantle forms for pouring concrete, using saws, hammers, nails or bolts.
• Tends pumps, compressors, or generators.
• Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials.
• May operate a variety of power and hand tools: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, mechanical hoists, surveying, measuring and other equipment.
• Maintain clean work area by disposing of trash and debris properly.
• Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
• Promote and adhere to the company’s safety program.
