This Experienced Environmental Chemist – Data Validation position, is mid-level, non-laboratory based environmental chemistry work with an emphasis on environmental analytical data validation. This position can be performed either hybrid out of Valley Forge, PA, or remote. The Experienced Environmental Chemist – Data Validation role requires a thorough understanding of environmental analytical data generation processes across a wide variety of matrices, constituents, and regulatory settings. This role requires a unique blend of critical attention to detail and high-level systematic thinking – successful candidates will be able to understand and apply granular detail while not losing sight of the big picture. Strong technical comprehension and solid problem-solving skills are a must. Candidates will need to be familiar with the full cycle of environmental data collection, including planning guidelines and regulatory frameworks; sample collection techniques; analytical methodology and quantitation; data review and quality control interpretation; and environmental data management and reporting processes. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or an allied science from an accredited college or university.
  • 5+ years of environmental chemistry analytical data validation/chemistry QA, field sampling, and/or project management experience, or 10+ years of environmental analytical laboratory experience focused on QA or client services/project management.
  • Experience reviewing environmental laboratory data for completeness; correctness; compliance against the published analytical methods; and usability by utilizing corporate data validation standard operating procedures, US EPA data validation guidelines, and QA Project Plans.
  • Strong understanding in one or more of the following: US EPA methods and regional guidance for the collection of environmental samples.
  • US EPA methods for the preparation and analysis of environmental samples.
  • Analytical chemistry principles and application to environmental data review.
  • Interpretation and data usability assessment and US EPA data validation guidelines.
  • Environmental data management systems such as EQuIS.
  • Requirements for Sampling Analysis Plans, Quality Assurance Project Plans, or similar project control documents.
  • Environmental investigation or remediation project management.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Capable of performing tasks such as: creating spreadsheets; composing correspondence; and creating reports and documents using Microsoft® Office software.
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe® Acrobat.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to focus on individual tasks while collaborating with your peers.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing third-party oversight of field or laboratory data generation processes, QA plans, or data systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with automated data review tools strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing analytical data generated by environmental laboratories in an organized and efficient manner, consistent with and as prescribed by corporate and US EPA data validation standard operating procedures, quality assurance project plans, and published analytical methods.
  • Critically evaluating environmental analytical data to assess usability relative to data quality objectives.
  • Preparing and/or providing technical review of data quality and usability assessment reports.
  • Preparing or critically reviewing environmental sampling plans, quality assurance project plans (QAPPs), and data management plans.
  • Acting as a liaison between field personnel and laboratories, ensuring that samples are collected appropriately, submitted to laboratories capable of meeting project needs, and reported consistently with project requirements.
  • Effectively managing projects or technical workflows across a multidisciplinary team.
  • Communicating effectively and professionally, both internally and with external clients and client contractors.
  • Participation in business development efforts and developing client relationships.
  • Developing technical presentations and attend/present at trade conferences.
  • Maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Exercising safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.
  • Participating in the company’s continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.
  • Staying up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attend professional workshops.
  • Performing other duties as assigned depending on your skillset and interests.
