About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines and related systems. The ideal candidate will be proficient in using computerized diagnostic equipment to identify defects and malfunctions. Responsibilities include performing routine maintenance tasks, such as changing oil and filters, and repairing or replacing faulty engine components. The mechanic will also test vehicles post-repair to ensure optimal performance and efficiency. Additional duties involve servicing fuel injection systems, brakes, and exhaust gas emission control systems, as well as maintaining air conditioning and heating systems in diesel engines. The role requires the ability to fabricate parts when necessary and to follow technical manuals for proper repair procedures. Keeping accurate records of repairs, estimating job costs and time, and maintaining inventory are also essential tasks. The mechanic will mentor junior staff and stay updated on the latest technologies and repair techniques in the diesel industry.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic or similar role
  • Familiarity with diesel engines and their components
  • Ability to use computerized diagnostic equipment
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations

Responsibilities

  • Inspect diesel engines for defects or malfunctioning and diagnose problems with the help of computerized diagnostic equipment
  • Perform routine tasks like changing oil and filters
  • Repair or replace faulty components of the engine
  • Test vehicles to ensure they perform efficiently after repairs
  • Optimize power output and fuel efficiency by adjusting engine controls
  • Service and repair fuel injection systems
  • Service and repair brakes on diesel-powered vehicles
  • Rebuild or replace transmissions or parts in the powertrain
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in electrical systems
  • Service and repair exhaust gas and emission control systems
  • Repair and maintain AC and heating systems in diesel engines
  • Fabricate parts and components when the frame or parts of the vehicles are severely damaged and weakened using welding equipment
  • Follow and interpret readings in technical manuals for proper repair and service
  • Keep records of repairs and servicing
  • Counsel customers on problems and required repairs on their vehicles
  • Estimate cost and time for jobs
  • Order supplies and parts, maintain inventory
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and tools
  • Comply with safety procedures and regulations
  • Perform preventive maintenance to minimize breakdowns
  • Upgrade or retrofit older diesel engines to meet current emissions standards
  • Troubleshoot problems in hydraulic systems of construction equipment and repair them
  • Mentor junior mechanics or train apprentices
  • Stay updated with the newest technologies and servicing/repair techniques
