About The Position

As an Experienced Complete Streets Designer/Civil Engineer, you will lead the evaluation, selection, and design of various transportation system solutions for a range of communities, with an emphasis on Safe Systems and Complete Streets design. You will be involved in generating conceptual designs and construction documents, collaborating with staff at all levels while conducting field work, coordinating closely with members of complete streets engineering and planning teams, engaging in discussions with clients and communities, and on-the-job training. Your focus will be to offer innovative and well-thought-out design solutions that align with client objectives and adhere to the latest best practices established by NACTO and similar organizations. Additionally, you will be responsible for project management, overseeing tasks, and assigning technical staff as necessary to deliver projects to clients. We partner with public, private, and institutional clients while embracing and striving to embody the diversity of our market area. Requirements

  • 5-12 years of experience in transportation engineering
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in transportation, civil or electrical engineering, urban and regional planning, or a related major (e.g., geography, math, statistics, economics)
  • Currently hold a California professional engineer’s (PE) license in Civil Engineering, or have the ability to obtain through reciprocity within one year
  • Demonstrated understanding of complete streets, including separated bikeways, protected intersections, and roundabout layout
  • Experience applying Caltrans, MUTCD, NACTO, and AASHTO design standards/guidelines on a variety of projects
  • Experience developing construction documents (final design, PS&E) for traffic engineering projects
  • Familiarity with preparing and reviewing signing, striping, and traffic signal plans
  • Familiarity with safety countermeasure selection and design
  • Familiarity with mobility issues and how they affect transportation engineering
  • Familiarity with the Safe System approach to safety
  • Experience leading proposals and building client relationships
  • Interest and experience with mentoring and training staff

Responsibilities

  • Preparing plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for transportation engineering projects, including all ages and abilities bikeways, bus speed and reliability improvements, traffic signals, and lighting projects
  • Marketing and bringing in new projects by building client relationships, preparing proposals, and presenting in interviews
  • Mentoring and training your colleagues and receiving mentorship from senior staff
  • Developing scopes of work and fees for multi-disciplinary traffic engineering design projects
  • Managing direct client interaction and communication with members of the public through community engagement
  • Preparing conceptual designs that are accurate, feasible, and visually engaging
  • Leading and managing design tasks for transportation engineering and planning studies
  • Performing field work, such as site review preceding design, and support during construction
