About The Position

The ideal candidate will have a BSN Degree with at least two years of ICU and Medical/Surgical experience. This unit has both shifts available, 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am with rotating weekends and holidays. MD Anderson offers our nurses: - Three 12 hour shifts per week, 1872 hours per year (minimum) - $13,320 annual inpatient differential, paid $346.67 per paycheck - Paid employee medical benefits (zero premium) starting on first day - Minimum 24.5 days paid leave in first year (PTO & holidays) - Tuition Assistance Program - Teacher’s Retirement System defined-benefit pension plan - Employer paid short-term disability, life & accidental death insurance - Certification pay and State of Texas longevity pay - No State income tax - Relocation assistance The Nursing Resource Pool (NRP) provides excellent opportunities for experienced Oncology nurses to work in a friendly, team-oriented environment. We assist the hospital to fill staffing needs to each unit as assessed on a shift to shift basis. With a continuous change in census and acuity throughout the hospital, the NRP staff is flexible and is trained to provide safe, effective, patient and family- centered care. We treat a multiple range of patients and enjoy the variety of working in different settings. Forty-two percent of NRP registered nurses are OCN-certified. NRP nurses also hold certifications in pediatric oncology, pain management, critical care, radiology and medical-surgical. MD Anderson is among 1% of hospitals nationwide who have earned five consecutive Magnet Recognition Program® designations from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing.
  • OCN - Oncology Nurse Certification
  • Certification in specialty practice area.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area.
  • Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes.
  • Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies.
  • Participates in data collection for current studies.
  • Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies.
  • Documents care according to established standards.
  • Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from computer systems.
  • Assures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services.
  • Acts as a patient and family advocate in order to uphold patient rights.
  • Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.
