You are the dynamic, passionate Expanded Function Dental Assistant we are looking for. Your expertise and professionalism is needed at our Dental Office located in Fort Wayne, IN to provide expanded or extended duties, services, or capacities under the supervision of a licensed dentist. This is a Part time position working Tuesday and Thursday 8am - 6pm.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited dental assistant training program
  • Dental Radiographer license obtained within the first 6 months of employment
  • Must have Expanded Function Dental Assistant certification
  • Must have at least 2 yr. chairside experience (possibly 1 yr. if externship done at MHS site).
  • A valid driver's license with a driving record meeting Meridian's driving policy, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance
  • Drug screen, TB test, extensive background check, and fingerprinting are required of all Meridian employees.
  • Meridian Health Services recommends that all individuals who join Meridian have a flu shot and Covid vaccination to further protect our staff and the patients we serve. We also adhere to Covid-related protocol including wearing masks, social distancing, and sanitizing.

Responsibilities

  • Take and document patient health history and alert dentist to identified health risks.
  • Take and record patient vital signs prior to exam.
  • Perform oral procedures in accordance with formal training and State licensure scope.
  • Set up operatory appropriately for intended exam and or treatment.
  • Provide chairside assistance for the hygienist or dentist as directed.
  • Skilled in four-handed dentistry technique.
  • Provide patient teaching as needed.
  • Take xrays as directed by the hygienist or dentist.
  • Follow OSHA and Infection Control guidelines specific to: Personal emergency treatment for blood or chemical in eyes Instrument sterilization and storage Bio-hazard waste handling, disposal and storage (including needles) Wearing appropriate person protective gear during oral procedures
  • Assist with maintaining supply inventory.
  • Assist with monitoring equipment functionality for maintenance inter A member of the dental care team in accordance with NNOHA and NCQA- Patient Centered Medical Home Standards
  • Participate in ongoing professional development training (as assigned).
  • Participated on content-specific committees or teams (as assigned).
  • Perform assigned duties that fall within your area of practice (i.e. front office tasks).
