About The Position

Responsibilities: Operates various hand tools, power tools, and equipment used to complete carpentry duties, including: circular saw, table saw, router, pneumatic nail gun, ramset, drills, and other tools used for measuring, cutting, fastening, and drilling Builds and installs custom exhibition casework, museum cabinetry and fixtures Builds blocks, risers, and upholstery to display artwork Assists in preparation and painting museum spaces: touch-up, prime and paint walls, ceiling, panels, trim, doors, etc. Assists in loading and storage of materials and exhibition display casework Helps with shop clean-up and maintenance Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment by conducting inspections, lubricating, and cleaning on a daily basis Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents or injuries; and complete safety training and certifications Performs other duties as assigned Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Must be competent in woodworking and upholstery and able to handle wall repair and painting in all gallery spaces Ability to walk, stand, crouch for long periods of time and carry out strenuous physical task Must be able to work at heights and to lift up to 75 lbs Must have valid drivers license and good driving record Ability to work both independently with little supervision, and as part of a team Capable of operating required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner Prefer candidate who has own transportation and is willing to use it for occasional errands (the museum reimburses for mileage) Education and Experience: 3-5 years experience with cabinetry, laminates and installations, trim out Previous experience with painting a plus Wall framing and drywall experience a plus Equal Opportunities for All The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) is committed to attracting and retaining talented individuals who can contribute meaningfully to our mission and organizational excellence.
