About The Position

The Exhibition Production Coordinator at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) plays a crucial role in managing and executing exhibitions within the School of Art and Design. This position involves preparing, handling, and moving artwork, as well as installing exhibitions in various campus spaces. The coordinator supervises the Graduating Student Exhibition, collaborates with faculty and staff, and ensures that all technical and logistical needs are met for successful exhibition production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Art History, Studio Art, or Museum Studies required.
  • 3-5 years of appropriate business experience.
  • Knowledge of exhibition production, design, installation standards, and art handling experience, including moving oversized art objects; gallery lighting experience required.
  • Experience working with college staff, curators, and faculty from diverse industries, exhibition producers, and students.
  • Experience overseeing the coordination of multiple activities and complex tasks for single and inter-related projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to monitor and assess performance, identify areas for improvement for corrective action.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint) and Google applications, including Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Calendar.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, organize, and manage all significant components of the Art and Design Gallery exhibitions, under the supervision of the Curator.
  • Monitor all aspects of exhibition installations, staffing, budget, and materials.
  • Generate and supervise exhibition-specific deadlines for the installation and curation of exhibitions.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and alumni to maintain the Gallery's mission of being an extension of the classroom.
  • Supervise and regularly update the FIT website.
  • Act as point person for gallery lighting issues.
  • Pack and unpack works of art for loans, exhibitions, campus installations, and transit.
  • Collaborate on handling oversize and complex artworks, including mounting systems, rigging, movement, and storage methods.
  • Research and recommend installation equipment.
  • Research and order supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in the development of exhibition planning.
  • Attend faculty and student installation-related meetings.
  • Attend exhibition departmental production meetings.
  • Participate in creating exhibition budgets and sourcing materials for the Art and Design Gallery.
  • Perform related duties, as may be required.
