About The Position

The Exhibit Maintenance and Installation Manager oversees the maintenance and installation of exhibits at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science. This role involves managing a team responsible for the upkeep of museum exhibits, ensuring safety compliance, and coordinating the logistics of traveling exhibitions. The manager will also handle budgeting, scheduling, and quality control to enhance the museum experience.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of experience in a similar role at a cultural institution or public-facing attraction.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and various scheduling/project management software solutions.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Successful completion of the OSHA 30-hour safety training program or ability to complete it within 90 days.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a team responsible for the maintenance of the Museum's exhibits and the installation and removal of traveling exhibitions.
  • Ensure appropriate scheduling of staff for ongoing and preventive maintenance of exhibits.
  • Produce a detailed schedule highlighting staffing assignments for upcoming exhibit projects and tasks.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and guidance to the exhibit maintenance department staff.
  • Develop the annual exhibit department budget in collaboration with senior management.
  • Lead in the selection and hiring of exhibit technicians.
  • Ensure compliance with Museum, State, and Federal safety requirements by all team members and vendors.
  • Manage the budget for labor and materials needed for exhibit installations and removals.
  • Coordinate with the operations team to update the exhibits calendar with facility-wide events.
  • Perform administrative functions, including reviewing staff and vendor timecards and vendor invoices.
  • Negotiate with vendors for the best possible rates.
  • Update staff documents and training materials as necessary.
  • Coordinate training and schedules for exhibit staff and volunteers.
  • Conduct regular quality control evaluations on exhibit maintenance operations.
  • Make recommendations for exhibition improvements to enhance the Museum experience.
  • Provide creative input to the exhibit development and design team for future projects.
  • Oversee the daily start-up and shut down of all exhibits and halls.
  • Document the operational status of exhibits in the galleries.
  • Identify and repair mechanical and electrical exhibit components in a timely manner.
  • Manage a log of available temporary exhibitions for the Museum.
  • Plan the layout and installation procedures for touring exhibits with producers.
  • Direct the loading, setup, takedown, and unloading of exhibits.
  • Institute a predictive and preventative maintenance program for permanent exhibits.
  • Manage the storage of items at the off-site warehouse and coordinate maintenance with the Museum Facilities department.
  • Lead the team responsible for preparing galleries for events and restoring them afterward.
  • Act as an integral member of the emergency response team.
