About The Position

HealthWorks! is a family-based program in the Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children’s for children and teens with overweight or obesity conditions. HealthWorks! is part of the Center for Better Health and Nutrition (CBHN), a national role model in combating childhood obesity that treats more than 900 patients annually. HealthWorks! promotes healthier eating habits and increased physical activity. The program is designed to meet the needs of our patients and their families by helping them set realistic, achievable goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assessment - Conduct cardiopulmonary exercise testing according to established guidelines.
  • Conduct field testing and fitness evaluation for clinical populations.
  • Comply with policies and procedures protecting patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as defined by Cincinnati Children's mission and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist in establishing job requirements and goals; perform duties at the desired level of competency.
  • Understands, adheres to and models Core Values as defined organizationally and specifically within the department/unit/institute.
  • Patient Care - Assist in exercise therapy and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs for clinical populations.
  • Provide services and consultation in a manner to be regularly and conveniently available to meet the needs of Cincinnati Children's patients as determined by Heart Institute management and medical staff.
  • Data Analysis - Assist in analysis of data and test measures and generate clinical reports under direct mentorship.
  • Assist in analysis of data and test measures for research projects under direct mentorship.
  • Assist in data management and analysis for research projects and publications/presentations under direct mentorship.
  • Perform first echelon maintenance and calibration of medical instrumentation for exercise testing/therapy and data analysis.
  • Follow Cincinnati Children's established code of ethical behavior in decisions and actions regarding marketing, admission, transfer, discharge and billing.
  • Education & outreach - Assist in training and instruction of Fellows, residents, and allied health personnel.
  • Conduct in-service on exercise testing/therapy for Fellows, residents and allied health care personnel.
  • Attend required Cincinnati Children's training sessions, including radiation safety, laboratory safety, safety college, patient safety, and OSHA.
  • Comply with infection control policies and procedures.
  • Training & Development - Maintain currency in the field through continuing education, literature and seminars.
  • Implement this knowledge in the Cardiopulmonary Exercise Physiology Lab.
  • Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to Heart Institute discussions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
