About The Position

The position is for a part-time role in the Cardiac Rehabilitation department at Advocate Health, specifically at the AMC Burlington location. The role involves interpreting physiological data from stress tests to determine individualized exercise prescriptions, planning and implementing treatment programs based on patient evaluations, and modifying exercise prescriptions based on various medical factors. The candidate will work closely with physicians and other medical staff to determine program eligibility and progress, and will also establish health education programs for patients. Responsibilities include counseling patients on home activity and exercise programs, assisting in cardiac emergencies, and mentoring staff for certification. The role requires physical demands such as lifting and transporting patients, and the candidate must demonstrate knowledge of patient care across different age groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology or Kinesiology.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets physiological data from stress tests for determination of individualized exercise prescription.
  • Plans and implements treatment programs based upon patient evaluation.
  • Modifies exercise prescription based on cardiac symptomatology and other medical problems.
  • Works with physicians to determine program eligibility and timing of progression.
  • Establishes and presents a coordinated health education program for patients.
  • Participates in family and patient conferences as necessary.
  • Promotes referral to rehabilitation program by developing relationships with referral sources.
  • Places electrodes on patients for various cardiac monitors and tests.
  • Counsels patients in home activity and exercise programs.
  • Assists in the resolution of cardiac emergencies or symptoms of exercise intolerance.
  • May serve as a mentor for staff working for certification.
  • Serves as a hospital consultant in exercise physiology.
  • Participates in professional organizations for personal development.
  • Assists in monitoring outpatient cardiac rehabilitation exercise groups.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties.
