About The Position

Here, you will work alongside passionate physicians, nurses, and other caregivers in a family-oriented, supportive environment. An Exercise Physiologist conducts and evaluates all Cardiology exercise tests for patients coming from heart surgery based on physician orders, clinical assessments and standard protocols. In this role, you will support patients in their healing journey post-cardiac surgery, meeting patients where they are and tailoring therapy to help them in achieving a return to their baseline pre-surgery with regards to their cardiopulmonary and overall health. Your efforts will contribute to the mission and vision of one of the best healthcare systems in the world. A caregiver in this position works Monday – Friday from 7:00AM – 3:00PM.

Requirements

  • Training in graded exercise testing, EKG analysis and interpretation and cardiovascular exercise physiology cardiac rehabilitation principles
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through the American Red Cross within six months of hire
  • Experience with cardiopulmonary patients and their families
  • Ability to respond to and function in an emergency situation
  • Ability to perform algebraic mathematical calculations in order to calculate Metabolic Equivalents and perform Heart Rate calculations
  • Experience in exercise prescription and leadership, nutrition and social sciences

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree from accredited school of Exercise Physiology
  • Clinical Exercise Specialist Certification by American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
  • Membership in the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
  • Experience participating in scientific research

Responsibilities

  • Provide care to adults utilizing appropriate assessment and interview techniques.
  • Identify psychosocial, physical and education needs common to adults.
  • Provide for patient privacy and reassure and support patients when there is anxiety.
  • Modify testing techniques to reflect response unique to adults.
  • Educate patients on specific needs.
  • Inspect, clean, calibrate and maintain equipment in accordance with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)/American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.
  • Verify physician order and perform the appropriate testing using ACSM/ACC/AHA guidelines for scheduled patient as well as add-on emergency patients.
  • Act as a resource for the Cardiologist for patient education and troubleshooting of therapeutic issues related to exercise and cardiac risk factor modification.
  • Utilize computer resources such as the MUSE, Case Stress system and EpicCare EMR system for obtaining EKG reading and reports.
  • Assist Cardiology staff with research projects and quality improvement.
  • Conduct pre-test entry interviews and consultations with patients.
  • Perform additional physiologic assessment as required (i.e. metabolic testing, oximetry, etc.).
  • Communicate negative stress results to patients in a timely and effective manner.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date documentation and files at all times, including products and service quotes.
