About The Position

The Executive Steward ensures that all Banquets and other Food and Beverage outlets have the required quantities of sanitized equipment/supplies to meet the business needs of the hotel. The position is part of the pre-opening team for the Omni Ft. Lauderdale Hotel, which is set to open in Fall 2025. This hotel will feature 801 guest rooms, multiple restaurants, a rooftop bar, a pool, spa, and fitness center, along with extensive meeting and event space. The Executive Steward will be responsible for the efficient and effective running of the Steward Department, ensuring that operating costs are minimized and that the services provided meet established standards of performance within budgetary controls.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years progressive Management experience.
  • Previous experience as an Executive Steward or Assistant Executive Steward in a high-volume facility, preferred.
  • Ability to communicate written and orally in English.
  • Ability and willingness to work a varied schedule including weekends and holidays.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Maintain a professional business appearance, attitude, and performance.
  • Demonstrate ability to lead by example.
  • Experience training and developing employees with limited education/experience.
  • Strong customer service orientation and skills.
  • Excellent safety and sanitation skills.
  • Food safety certification is required.
  • Ability to quickly evaluate alternatives and decide on a plan of action.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk, push, pull, stoop, bend and lift items of moderate to heavy weight daily.
  • Good eye/hand coordination needed to use all stewarding equipment.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity needed in hands to operate machinery and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the efficient and effective running of the Steward Department ensuring that operating costs are minimized.
  • Execute company and hotel policies and procedures relating to the Stewarding Department.
  • Advise the Executive Chef and Food & Beverage Director on all matters relating to the Stewarding Department.
  • Ensure a high standard of sanitation throughout the Stewarding areas.
  • Assist the Executive Chef and Director of Food & Beverage in the preparation of the Stewarding Department budget.
  • Control all overheads throughout the year and report variances to the Executive Chef.
  • Work with the Executive Chef on purchasing cleaning supplies, china, glassware, cutlery, and equipment.
  • Responsible for storage and requisitioning of all materials and equipment.
  • Take and calculate material stock (inventory) as required.
  • Report breakages and cleaning supply consumption to the Executive Chef.
  • Establish standards of performance for the Stewarding Department.
  • Maintain all equipment to a high standard and report defects to maintenance.
  • Perform all duties applicable to a department manager within the hotel.
  • Participate in the critical path task sheet for the food and beverage department.
  • Conduct/attend all required department meetings.
  • Plan, organize, and control the efficient utilization of all stewarding production staff.
  • Interview/recruit suitable staff for the operation.
  • Oversee the training/development of all stewarding staff.
  • Administer payroll for staff ensuring associates are paid accurately.
  • Create weekly stewarding schedules for Executive Chef approval.
  • Oversee planning, assigning, and directing work, conducting performance appraisals.
