About The Position

The News Service of Florida is seeking a Senior Reporter who can lead our coverage of the Florida State Capitol. This role is for an experienced writer who can cover high-profile committee meetings, floor sessions and the state budget, providing the nuanced analysis our professional subscribers depend on. About News Service of Florida The News Service of Florida, a platform of GovExec, is the state’s most comprehensive and in-depth source of political and policy news. We have the largest capitol news bureau in the state. Our subscribers depend on us for timely, unbiased, and detailed coverage of state government, including legislative and budgetary issues, the courts, the Florida economy and much more. News Service of Florida subscribers include Florida legislative and political leadership, media outlets, lobbyists, corporations, associations, non-profits and law offices of every size.

Requirements

8+ years in journalism, with at least 3 years in an editorial leadership role.
Deep understanding of Florida’s legislative process, state agencies and political landscape.
Proven ability to manage a high-volume newsroom under strict deadlines.

Responsibilities

Set the daily and weekly news agenda, prioritizing stories that provide the most value to our specialized subscriber base
Top-edit all copy for accuracy, tone, and legal risk, ensuring every story is "wire-ready" for our syndication partners
Lead and recruit a talented team of reporters
Oversee the workflow of the 60-day legislative session, managing gavel-to-gavel coverage and budget-related news
Act as a liaison for key stakeholders, ensuring our coverage meets the professional needs of our paid subscribers
Moderate and emcee events as needed
