This role is responsible for ensuring the BSN Publication illustrates the Pittsburgh region’s relevance and contributions to the aviation industry. Here is how the Executive Editor, Blue Sky News will help:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism or Public Relations, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Five-Seven years as a reporter or editor of a news publication. Preferably a business or financial journalism background.
  • Experience working with internal and external communications teams and event planners to create buzz around stories and issues.
  • Possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid driver’s license. Note: license must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Extensive knowledge of multimedia storytelling, including using video as the primary means of telling the story and creative use of social media.
  • Proven knowledge of fundamental editorial disciplines and processes
  • Expert skills in writing and copyediting.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, manage resources across multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Highly motivated, productive, and detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with brand or advocacy journalism.
  • Highly proficient in project management and problem solving in fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with computer applications and systems such as Adobe Acrobat Professional and MS Office Suite.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to interact with all levels of employees.
  • Extensive knowledge of news media operations at the reporter or managing editor level.
  • Ability to travel is up to 5%.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Blue Sky News publication processes and procedures.
  • Develop and execute the editorial vision for Blue Sky News, to increase audience engagement.
  • Communicate editorial vision to Communications and Brand team, freelancers, and contactors.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage the work product of assigned editorial staff, including freelancers and contractors, to ensure quality control and timeliness of projects.
  • Develop content with a news focus on relevant topics including but not limited to Workforce, Innovation, Economic Development, Technology, etc.
  • Proof and edit the quality control and approval of Blue Sky editorial content.
  • Maintain accurate schedules, budgets, specifications, and track changes for all projects.
  • Prepare operational reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
  • Lead daily news desk meetings and recruit new contributors for the publication.
  • Work with writers to resolve issues and report roadblocks, as well as coordinating videos, photos, infographics, etc.
  • Support Communications & Brand department and other ACAA departments as proofreaders to ensure consistency with ACAA Style Guide and voice.
  • Maintain, revise, update as necessary and enforce ACAA Style Guide.
  • Ensure adherence to the ACAA’s editorial guidelines and policies.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned or required.
