About The Position

The Executive Director of Rose Haven is responsible for leading and providing oversight of nonprofit operations and fulfilling the organization’s mission. This includes strategic planning, development, finance, human resources, marketing, community outreach, program oversight and board engagement. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors. The Executive Director exemplifies the mission, vision, values and strategic direction of the organization, based on the goals and objectives of the strategic plan, the by-laws and the fiscal policies as approved by the Board.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated passion for the organization’s mission and our focus on diversity and inclusion within our organization and community.
  • 8+ years of experience directing operations including managing staff, fundraising and providing financial oversight.
  • Experience with trauma-informed management.
  • Experience in identifying, managing and cultivating donors/donations, with particular focus on fundraising campaigns.
  • Ability to lead diverse teams and work effectively with key stakeholders including staff, volunteers, and donors, as well as community leaders, advocates and organizations, the media, elected and government officials
  • Excellent listener and ability to communicate using multiple channels, keeping messages understandable and inclusive for a wide range of stakeholders and abilities.
  • Experience developing and making compelling presentations.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively, provide constructive feedback, solve problems, inspire positive staff morale.
  • Exceptional ability to build and maintain trust among all stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience in relevant field, preferred.
  • Social service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the leader of the Rose Haven day shelter including facilities, programs and staff.
  • Supervises the Development Director, People and Culture Director, Program Director, Volunteer and Academic Program Director and Advocacy Director and provides mentoring, support and oversight.
  • Empowers and holds the management team accountable in responding to the needs of our guest community.
  • Manages the development and implementation of annual business plans, track results, update the plan, and provide regular updates to the Board of Directors.
  • Stays current on best practices in shelter operations and policies, advocates for community change, and represents Rose Haven to media and community groups.
  • Represents Rose Haven’s guests from a strength-based position to donors and funders and oversee the operational budget to implement programs.
  • With the Director of People and Culture, effectively recruit, retain, manage, and develop a high performing team including union and non-union employees.
  • Empower staff by supporting their well-being and professional development and work with Directors to manage conflicts, build teams, develop workplans and implement successful HR processes.
  • Oversees all professional contractors and vendors and negotiates all service contracts.
  • With the Board Finance Committee and all Director level staff, develop annual department and organization budgets.
  • Develop financial and investment strategies with the Finance Committee that ensure transparency in all business practices and organizational operations.
  • Prudently manages organization resources using approved budget guidelines and according to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Supports the work with outside auditors to ensure continued compliance with acceptable business practices.
  • With the Development Director, create and implement development plans and any fundraising campaigns as well as brand management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Actively engage in the cultivation and solicitation of philanthropic support.
  • Represent the organization to funders, media and stakeholders to develop strong partnerships and long-lasting investments for current and future needs.
  • With the Program Director, Volunteer and Academic Program Director and Advocacy Director, ensure that Rose Haven’s services respond to the needs of current and future guests.
  • Develop goals and review on-going evaluations of guest successes and challenges to develop strategies for responding to the changing community.
  • Support an effective Board of Directors in exercising their full governance, vision and service potential on behalf of the organization.
  • Partner with the Board to advance strategic priorities and ensure effective governance practices, including evaluation and accountability.
  • Support operations and administration of the Board, interface between Board and staff.
  • Cultivate partnerships and relationships in the region and nationally to expand the reach of Rose Haven’s programs and services with other nonprofits and businesses.
  • Participate/support engagement with local, regional and national shelter programs and advocacy organizations.
  • Regularly meet with and manage relationships with local neighbors, businesses, media and other service providers.
