About The Position

The Executive Director will lead the Asia Society Southern California Center, building on the Center’s excellent work in entertainment, media, technology, real estate, and sports, and further expanding this work and creating new initiatives. The position requires a self-starter who combines both meticulous management with creative relationship-building, fundraising, and advisory board management. This individual will have a successful track record in team building and is comfortable with taking a small organization to the next level of size and impact. The ideal candidate will bring to the job a pipeline of contacts, ideas about how to effectively reach and engage with Asian diaspora communities, a track record in designing and executing attractive programs, and experience budget building and fundraising to ensure fiscal stability and revenue growth.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in non-profit management, including fundraising, institution building, board/advisory board development and stewardship, and membership acquisition and retention.
  • A college degree in a related field is required; an advanced degree is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective engagement with senior executives at supporting and constituent organizations.
  • Strong team builder and leader with the ability to find, develop, and retain talent, integrating DEIA values and principles.
  • Strong and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and successfully across diverse cultures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other non-profit organizations and to establish partnerships.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to nimbly juggle and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite of products, including Excel and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Marketing and public relations experience is preferred.
  • Experience living/working in Asia is preferred, though not required, as is proficiency in one or more Asian languages.
  • Experience with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform and automated social media marketing tools is highly desired with experience with Salesforce and Marketing Cloud a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and execution of public and members-only programs that advance Asia Society’s mission across a range of topics and Asia’s geographic diversity.
  • Further develop and execute signature programs, including: 1) Annual Gala Dinner; 2) U.S.-Asia Entertainment Summit; 3) Asian Women Empowered (AWE); 4) U.S.-Asia Real Estate Initiative
  • Help to develop, build, and engage the Center’s advisory board.
  • Engage in strategic planning to refine the Center’s mission and vision, in alignment with Asia Society’s global mission and strategic plan.
  • Outline a road map to facilitate expansion by engaging in impactful programs; raising funds; and expanding the membership base.
  • Cultivate institutional partnerships with community, national, and international organizations to raise the Center’s profile and impact and grow the audience, especially among key Asian communities in Southern California and emerging leaders across a broad array of fields.
  • Develop and manage membership initiatives, and marketing/branding activities.
  • Recruit, develop, and manage the Center’s staff, incorporating principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.
  • Fundraise and manage the budget and resources of the Center, working in close coordination with the Asia Society’s Chief Financial Officer.
  • Represent the Center in the community and throughout the global Asia Society network, working closely with the Asia Society’s Chief Operating Officer.
  • Maintain a strong and effective working relationship with the Northern California Center and other Centers to leverage Asia Society resources.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
