About The Position

The Executive Director is a transformative leader committed to driving the successful execution of the organization’s strategic imperatives. In this pivotal role, you will lead your center to deliver a Y experience that is impactful and relevant to the community. You will be responsible for building strong relationships with members, energizing employees and volunteers, inspiring donors, and fostering growth and innovation. As the key leader, you will ensure high performance across all programs and services, focusing on quality, member engagement, and exceptional customer service. Your inclusive management style will empower your team to leverage their diverse skills and perspectives, creating a collaborative environment that drives results. You will oversee the achievement of strategic plan metrics, manage fiscal responsibilities, and ensure facility standards are met, all while enhancing the Y's reputation within the community. By engaging with partners, local officials, and community organizations, you will cultivate meaningful relationships that strengthen the Y’s impact. Additionally, you will lead innovative initiatives that address community needs, ensuring the organization remains a vital resource for years to come. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field; advanced degrees are advantageous.
  • At least eight years in a leadership position, ideally within a YMCA or nonprofit organization, showcasing a proven ability to manage diverse teams successfully.
  • Demonstrated capability to direct and enhance operations, focusing on developing and empowering volunteers to create a culture of engagement and impact.
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring staff to nurture talent and drive performance excellence.
  • Skilled in crafting and managing budgets in alignment with strategic goals, exhibiting strong financial acumen and resourcefulness.
  • Proven track record of successfully increasing membership and program enrollment through innovative strategies and effective community engagement.
  • A strong history of meeting financial targets, with experience in budget forecasting, variance analysis, and implementing necessary corrective measures.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the YMCA movement and a commitment to building relationships that advance the organization’s mission and community impact.
  • Familiarity with or eagerness to learn about design thinking and social entrepreneurship, with the ability to devise creative solutions for community challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with a talent for engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, donors, and community leaders.
  • Capacity to think strategically and translate vision into actionable plans that align with organizational objectives and community needs.

Responsibilities

  • Ultimately accountable for the team achieving at high levels to ensure a transformative Y Experience and achieve organizational objectives.
  • Ensure high-quality programs and excellent customer service.
  • Model inclusive management behaviors and embrace all dimensions of diversity – building strong teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to our mission.
  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, and managing all direct reports and ensuring alignment with the association's people practices for all positions within their organizational structure.
  • Lead check-ins with the team to ensure progress with goals, provide ongoing coaching and feedback, and discuss development opportunities.
  • Responsible for successful center n metrics, Net-Promoter Scores, and goals.
  • Ensure centers are achieving targets and producing meaningful qualitative results.
  • Implement a goal-based management approach and ensure the center is actively working towards supporting organizational-level goals.
  • Design and implement a strategy to drive membership and program enrollment and growth while ensuring a high-quality and transformative Y Experience as demonstrated by net- promoter scores and other experience metrics.
  • Ensure implementation of high-quality member engagement strategies and programs to support center and association goals and strategies.
  • Oversee plans for the expansion of programs and services, in harmony with the overall YMCA Strategic Plan and goals.
  • Stay current and provide updates to leaders, discussing other providers in the service areas along with their offerings, value proposition, and key attributes, developing an action plan on how the Y remains relevant in its programs and services.
  • Build bridges within the community so that all segments of society have access to the Y.
  • Effectively communicates community benefit and the Y’s impact for all stakeholders (e.g., staff, volunteers, members, and community leaders), develops positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Enhance the Y’s reputation in the community by engaging with partners, businesses, school districts, and other non-profit organizations that are invested in strengthening the community.
  • Ensure center execution on all aspects of association marketing strategies and campaigns.
  • Oversee the budgeting process so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives.
  • Identify growth opportunities, conduct monthly forecasting, and correct financial deficiencies on a timely basis.
  • Lead the development of and monthly variance reports reviews, with the team, implementing action plans to stay on plan with the annual budget.
  • Ensure the facility and equipment are well-maintained, safe, and clean, following association guidelines and practices.
  • Collaborate with the team on regular walkthroughs to support a well-maintained facility.
  • Enhance the Y’s reputation in the community by engaging with partners, businesses, school districts, and other non-profit organizations that are invested in strengthening the community (e.g., serving on the local chamber, building relationships with local, city, and county officials and representatives).
  • Drive the cultivation and implementation of community partnerships for assigned centers and the association.
  • Partners with youth development leaders to build strong partnerships with school districts and other educational entities.
  • Recruit, develop, and maintain highly effective Boards of Advisors, following the by-laws of the YMCA of Greater Austin.
  • Support board chairs in facilitating engaging and productive board meeting experiences. Regularly attend board meetings for assigned centers in accordance with the annual plan.
  • Drive successful fund-raising and financial development, working with the Development team and Operations team to meet annual goals.
  • Meets with the Operations and the Development Team to ensure the center's progress toward fundraising goal
  • Leads strong board/volunteer and staff participation.
  • Lead and model design thinking and social entrepreneurship practices to develop innovative solutions to community needs, community and association-wide opportunities, and challenges.
  • Work to master, demonstrate, and coach others in design thinking and social entrepreneurship to establish a strong culture of social innovation.
  • Serve as a project team for assigned projects designed to incubate new products, services, and/or improve systems and processes.
  • Serve on Association-level impact teams, task forces, and/or committees as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
