About The Position

The Executive Director is a visionary, mission-driven leader responsible for guiding Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity (BCHFH) and its ReStores in advancing the mission to build homes, communities, and hope. Reporting to the Board of Directors, this role provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure that programs, finances, and partnerships effectively support BCHFH's long-term sustainability and community impact. The Executive Director oversees all aspects of the organization's operations, including staff management, strategic planning, fiscal oversight, resource development, and community engagement. As the public face of BCHFH, this leader builds meaningful relationships with donors, volunteers, and community partners and serves as the key liaison among the Board, committees, and staff.

Requirements

  • Deep passion for the mission, vision, and values of Habitat for Humanity.
  • Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills with a collaborative, empowering style.
  • Proven success in fundraising, donor relations, and community engagement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; confident public speaker and spokesperson.
  • Financial acumen and experience with operational budget development, analysis, and reporting.
  • Ability to work under pressure with professionalism, positivity, and resilience.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, nonprofit administration, marketing, or related field (master's preferred).
  • Minimum of three years of executive or senior management experience in the nonprofit sector (five years preferred).
  • Demonstrated success leading strategic initiatives, staff teams, and community partnerships.
  • Experience working with and supporting a nonprofit Board of Directors.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.

  • Knowledge of affordable housing, construction management, or real estate development preferred.
  • Strong relationships within Brunswick County and surrounding communities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Chief Administrative Officer, ensuring alignment with BCHFH's mission, values, and the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors.
  • Collaborate with the Board to develop, implement, and monitor strategic goals and objectives.
  • Position BCHFH for growth, innovation, and long-term sustainability through sound planning and organizational development.
  • Oversee personnel management, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and professional development, working collaboratively with the HR Manager.
  • Develop and oversee the annual operating budget for review by the Finance Committee and approval by the Board.
  • Manage resources responsibly, ensuring fiscal accountability and transparency.
  • Work closely with the Finance Manager, Treasurer, and Finance Committee to monitor financial performance, review reports, and ensure compliance with approved budgets.
  • Serve as the primary public representative and spokesperson for BCHFH.
  • Promote the organization through media engagement, storytelling, and a consistent community presence.
  • Partner with the Development Director to strengthen BCHFH's brand recognition and reputation as a leader in affordable housing.
  • Advocate for affordable housing and Habitat's mission locally, regionally, and statewide.
  • Represent BCHFH at community events, public meetings, and regional housing coalitions.
  • Build partnerships with nonprofits, civic groups, faith-based organizations, and government entities to expand the organization's reach and impact.
  • Implement affiliate policies, procedures, and Board directives.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Affiliate and ReStores to ensure efficiency, accountability, and mission alignment.
  • Partner with the ReStore Manager to ensure operations meet financial and programmatic goals.
  • Partner with the Construction Manager to ensure homes are completed on time, within scope, and budget.
  • Prepare and present monthly reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Serve as the liaison between BCHFH, Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), and Habitat for Humanity North Carolina (HFHNC).
  • Lead long-term strategic planning efforts and assist with Board recruitment and training.
