About The Position

Feed Northland Kids (FNK) is dedicated to serving food-insecure youth in Clay and Platte counties, Missouri. Through strong partnerships with schools, volunteers, and community organizations, FNK provides critical nutrition to children and families via 50 in-school pantries and its Community Food Kit (CFK) program, which delivers shelf-stable items, fresh produce, protein, and milk to feed entire families. Founded in 2009 and incorporated as a standalone nonprofit in 2013, FNK has become a trusted leader in addressing food insecurity in Kansas City’s Northland. With an annual budget exceeding $650,000, FNK is poised for continued growth and innovation to meet the needs of the community. Overview of the Role: Feed Northland Kids seeks a dynamic and mission-driven Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter of impact. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director serves as the chief executive and primary fundraiser, responsible for advancing FNK’s mission, vision, and financial sustainability. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution, overseeing operations, managing staff and volunteers, and serving as FNK’s public ambassador. Approximately 65–70% of the ED’s time will focus on fundraising and resource development, with the remainder dedicated to program oversight, community engagement, and organizational management. Requirements

  • Minimum three years of nonprofit leadership experience in an organization of similar size/scope with demonstrated success in fundraising and development.
  • Proven ability to secure significant donations and cultivate long-term donor relationships.
  • Strong financial acumen with a demonstrated ability to create, manage, and analyze budgets and financials.
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills; comfortable serving as lead spokesperson, relationship builder, and fundraiser.
  • Coalition building skills with the ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to increase public and private support from multiple funding sources.
  • Experience developing and working closely with a diverse Board of Directors.
  • Demonstrated commitment to FNK’s mission and an understanding of community-based nonprofit work.
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed and adaptive leadership style.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferred in nonprofit management, business, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all fundraising efforts, including major gifts, grants, corporate sponsorships, annual giving, and events.
  • Build and maintain strong donor relationships and oversee grant writing and reporting.
  • Develop strategies to diversify revenue streams and ensure financial sustainability.
  • Drive FNK’s strategic plan and identify opportunities for growth and innovation.
  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes to ensure measurable impact.
  • Represent FNK as a leader in addressing food insecurity and child wellness.
  • Collaborate with the Board on governance, planning, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Provide regular organizational updates and support Board development and engagement.
  • Serve as FNK’s spokesperson and advocate for child food security.
  • Strengthen partnerships with schools, civic groups, and community organizations.
  • Oversee marketing and communications to amplify FNK’s mission.
  • Manage staff, volunteers, and contractors while fostering a positive, mission-driven culture.
  • Oversee operations, budgeting, compliance, and vendor relationships.
  • Ensure financial and administrative systems support transparency and efficiency.
  • Oversee hunger-relief programs and ensure operational excellence.
  • Plan and execute major events, including FNK’s signature Bill Cross 5K Run/Walk.
