About The Position

Youable Emotional Health's mission is to empower people of all ages to live emotionally healthy lives. As a longstanding nonprofit in the Twin Cities area, Youable provides mental health services to children, adults of all ages, and families. The Executive Director is responsible for leading the organization with respect to mission, strategy, culture, operations, clinical programs, brand-building, revenue growth, and sustainable financial health. The Executive Director leads the agency's management team of five senior leaders and engages with the Board of Directors to oversee and guide the organization in delivering high-quality, ethical, and compliant mental health services.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated integrity, transparency, and ethical leadership.
  • Senior leadership experience (5+ years) in nonprofit healthcare, behavioral health, or a closely related human services field.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizations where clinical service delivery is central to the mission.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred (MBA, MHA, MPH, MSW, or related field valued).
  • Clinical background (licensed or previously licensed) is preferred, or substantial experience working closely with clinical teams, clinicians, or healthcare delivery systems.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis in a healthcare or nonprofit environment.
  • Working knowledge of behavioral health service models, clinical quality and outcomes measurement, healthcare compliance and risk management, and workforce challenges specific to clinical teams.
  • Ability to translate between clinical priorities and business strategy, earning credibility with both clinicians and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to navigate and influence complex systems.
  • Strong understanding of organizational mission and capacity to translate objectives into practice.
  • Ability to effectively lead and integrate change.
  • Competency in the areas of business planning, management and team member development, and performance management.
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving abilities using a structured decision-making approach.
  • Ability to guide and influence productive strategy execution and change in a mid-sized, complex nonprofit setting.

Responsibilities

  • Organization Mission, Strategy, and Clinical Stewardship Work with the Leadership Team and Board to develop and execute a strategic plan that integrates business sustainability with clinical excellence. Ensure that organizational strategy reflects current and emerging best practices in emotional and mental health care delivery. Oversee program development and growth with an understanding of clinical workflows, care models, access, outcomes, and quality measures. Represent Youable in the community and externally as a credible leader in behavioral health, capable of articulating both mission impact and clinical value. Engage in advocacy, public policy discussions, and payer or system-level initiatives with sufficient clinical knowledge to advance Youable's mission and protect care quality.
  • Organization Culture and Clinical Quality Foster a culture that aligns mission, values, and strategy with ethical, trauma-informed, client-centered clinical care. Ensure that Youable consistently delivers high-quality clinical services and strong client outcomes, supported by appropriate policies, supervision procedures, and quality improvement processes. Partner effectively with clinical leadership to understand standards of care, scope of practice, and licensure requirements; support evidence-based and culturally responsive treatment approaches; and monitor clinical quality indicators, risk management, and client satisfaction. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations governing behavioral health services, including confidentiality, documentation, supervision, and reporting requirements.
  • Financial Performance and Viability Maintain fiscal integrity while balancing financial decisions with clinical realities, including staffing models, productivity expectations, payer mix, and reimbursement constraints. Make informed business decisions that account for the impact on clinician capacity, quality of care, and team member well-being. Lead revenue generation and resource development efforts with a clear articulation of Youable's clinical impact and outcomes.
  • Organization Operations Oversee organizational operations with a working understanding of how clinical and administrative systems intersect. Hire, retain, and evaluate leadership team members, including clinical leadership, ensuring strong collaboration between business and clinical functions. Ensure systems for documentation, data collection, and reporting support both financial accountability and clinical quality assurance. Maintain compliance with all applicable healthcare, employment, and nonprofit regulations.
  • Board Governance Support the Board in fulfilling its fiduciary duties by providing clear, accurate information on financial performance, operational risks, and clinical quality. Communicate proactively and transparently with the Board regarding issues that may affect service quality, regulatory compliance, or organizational reputation.
