About The Position

The Executive Director serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Pride of Baltimore, Inc., a non-profit organization focused on promoting Maryland's maritime heritage and culture. This role involves strategic leadership, program development, financial management, and community engagement to ensure the organization's mission and financial objectives are met. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors and staff to enhance the organization's visibility and effectiveness in the community.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of proven success raising major charitable gifts for a nonprofit.
  • Demonstrated track record of nonprofit or business leadership.
  • Understanding of marketing, public relations, and online media strategies.
  • Experience with operations and IT management.
  • Proficiency in budget forecasting and management.
  • Exceptional communication skills with internal and external audiences.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with boards and manage and motivate staff.
  • Familiarity with legal procedures, bylaws, IRS 990, liability risk, etc.
  • Passion and enthusiasm for the mission of Pride of Baltimore II.

Responsibilities

  • Assure that Pride of Baltimore II has a long-range strategy that achieves its mission.
  • Prepare and lead an annual development plan that includes major gifts, foundation, and corporate relations.
  • Determine the annual sailing and ports schedule in consultation with the Board of Directors.
  • Provide leadership in developing program, organizational, and financial plans with the Board and staff.
  • Promote active participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization's work.
  • Negotiate contracts, appearance fees, and charters.
  • Maintain official records and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Keep the Board informed on the organization's condition and important influencing factors.
  • Publicize the organization's activities, programs, and goals.
  • Establish relationships with community groups and partner organizations.
  • Serve as spokesperson for Pride of Baltimore, Inc. to various stakeholders.
  • Work with the Board to recruit, employ, and release personnel as needed.
  • Ensure job descriptions are developed and regular performance evaluations are held.
  • Maintain a climate that attracts and motivates a diverse staff.
  • Develop and maintain sound financial practices and prepare a budget with the Board.
  • Ensure adequate funds are available for the organization to carry out its work.
