The Executive Director in the BARDS department is responsible for leading a team of statistical programmers in support of clinical development projects across various business areas. This role involves strategic planning, team management, and collaboration with multiple stakeholders to ensure the successful development and regulatory approval of medical drugs and vaccines. The Executive Director is a key member of the Statistical Programming Leadership Team, influencing departmental vision and strategy while fostering innovation and effective people management.

  • Determine the BARDS analysis and reporting programming strategy for early-stage development projects.
  • Manage work according to company scorecard and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Manage managers and build high-performing teams; recruit and hire staff, conduct performance reviews, and implement talent management strategies.
  • Coach and mentor staff, actively participate in succession and workforce planning.
  • Engage in shaping the department's vision and strategy beyond direct responsibilities.
  • Stay current with regulatory guidance and submission standards.
  • Manage team's headcount and budget; engage with vendors for programming resources.
  • Lead departmental and strategic initiative projects; develop and implement long-term and annual strategic objectives.
  • Participate in external industry initiatives and engage with thought leaders.
  • Master's degree in statistics, computer science, or closely related field preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in statistical programming or related activity in a pharmaceutical development environment.
  • At least 5 years of management experience at the Director level.
  • Expertise in statistical analysis and reporting, pharmaceutical development, compliance, and advanced programming techniques.
  • Experience managing a team of statistical programmers and developing analysis and reporting deliverables.
  • Ability to negotiate and work across business domains and cultures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; experience collaborating in a global environment.
  • Experience working with external vendors for resources and software.
  • Ability to function effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Superior knowledge and prior experience in setting strategy for analysis and reporting deliverables.
  • Ability to drive results and deal with complexity and ambiguity.
  • Solid experience with reporting processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient in leading teams through technological advancements and changing requirements.
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to engage stakeholders.
