For more information, please visit www.xencor.com. We have an excellent opportunity for an Executive Director, Program Management (Oncology), to join our team. This is a hybrid position with a minimum of 2 days a week on-site. This can be based from our San Diego or Pasadena CA. Site. Summary:The Executive Director, Program Management is responsible for leading a cross-functional team accountable for the end-to-end development of oncology programs within a matrixed environment. This role drives strategic alignment and execution from research through clinical development and into life cycle management, ensuring programs meet scientific, regulatory, and commercial objectives. This role requires broad expertise in drug development, strong communication and leadership abilities as well as skillful internal and external stakeholder engagement/management.

Requirements

  • Position requires an BS degree in Life Sciences or a related field, MBA or PhD preferred, and minimum of 18 years of related experience with at least 5 of those years including people management experience.
  • Pre-IND to Phase 1 and 2 experience required, Phase 3 and commercial product experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and expertise in the areas of oncology, autoimmune disease, monoclonal antibody and global IND/BLA requirements strongly preferred.
  • Alliance experience preferred.
  • Ability to successfully resolve program challenges through team-based problem solving and program tracking
  • Ability to use written and verbal communication skills to communicate complex scientific, medical and program issues
  • Operates with an attention to detail and understanding that details serve the higher-level strategy
  • Confidence and ability to professionally share opinions while valuing and respecting functional SME’s
  • Ability to partner with cross-functional team from research, pre-clinical development, manufacturing, quality, regulatory and clinical development
  • Strong leadership, influencing capability and active facilitation skills to enable effective team meetings and high-performance teams
  • Outstanding flexibility and adaptability suited for the changing requirements and fast pace of a small biotechnology company

Responsibilities

  • Builds and drives a project team through clear designation of team roles, responsibilities, clear work scope and coordination of efforts
  • Rigorously evaluates program assumptions, timelines, and budgets, developing alternative scenarios to support strategic and operational flexibility
  • Integrates emerging clinical, regulatory, and commercial insights into program strategy, adapting plans in response to a dynamic external environment
  • Anticipates potential risks early and leads the team in developing and implementing effective mitigation strategies
  • Leads strategic decision-making for the program in partnership with key stakeholders, ensuring appropriate resourcing and providing oversight and input on key budget-related decisions
  • Manages construction and maintenance of Integrated Development Plans, written in partnership with the program team and key experts
  • Manages project plans (in Smartsheet or MSP) that deliver the integrated development plan within agreed budget and timelines
  • Influences functional team members to deliver on activities as necessary to achieve program goals
  • Provides periodic status reports to executives and coordinates documentation and archiving of project deliverables
  • Communicates effectively across all functional groups so schedules and scope of the project remain clear
  • Provides alliance management support to one or more external partnerships
  • Alliance manager for multiple partnerships
  • Co-chairs at least one governance/advisory team
  • May provide oversight and direction to others as needed.
  • When assigned, performs supervision in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures which may include recruiting, training, communicating job expectations, appraising job performance, delivering feedback and coaching, and providing career development planning and opportunities
  • Adheres to all department and company-wide policies regarding conduct, performance and procedures
  • Provides oversight and direction to direct and indirect reports, as applicable, in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.
  • The responsibilities may include, but are not limited to recruiting, training, communicating job expectations, appraising and managing job performance, delivering feedback and coaching, and providing career development planning and opportunities
  • Performs other duties as required.
