About The Position

This person assists the Vice President with operational and strategic planning for the division of College Relations, and is responsible for fundraising activities, assuming a key role for planning and implementing the solicitation of funds including private and public foundations and grants, major giving, planned giving, and the administration of the Penn College Foundation. This position may require Intrastate and out-of-state travel. This position must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to participate in Foundation and other College Relations activities and to meet with prospective donors at their convenience. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communication, Public Administration, or related discipline. Required
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communication, Public Administration, or related discipline. Preferred
  • Valid and in State Valid Driver's License. Required
  • Five (5) years of successful experience in fundraising. Required
  • Experience tracking, monitoring and maintaining a financial portfolio. Required
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with other persons at various levels of responsibility. Required
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. Required
  • Ability to follow-through on complex, planned activities. Required
  • Must be well organized, able to work on own initiative, and capable of making sound decisions. Required
  • Must be able to work with limited supervision. Required
  • Demonstrated thorough understanding of investment portfolio development and management. Required
  • Possession of a valid driver's license. Required

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Vice President in formulating long-range fundraising & financial plans to support institutional initiatives.
  • Maintain a fundraising portfolio consisting of friends of the college, alumni, corporate partners, and community groups to secure financial support for identified fundraising priorities.
  • Keep Foundation by-laws technically current; recommend to the Vice President modification of by-laws, policies & practices of the Foundation as appropriate.
  • Act as the agent of the College in accepting gifts in accordance with the policies, procedures, & directives of the College.
  • Supervise the preparation & distribution of agendas, handouts & minutes for Foundation Board of Directors meetings; oversee mailing of meeting notices & other communications.
  • Develops, leads and evaluates the Foundation’s initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the Penn College Foundation Board assisting with the Foundation’s Cultivate relationships and solicit contributions & funds.
  • Ensure appropriate stewardship of gifts, including periodic donor reports.
  • Develop and/or assist in a Planned Giving Program for lifetime & testamentary gifts through trusts, bequests, annuities & other forms of deferred giving, & other specialized giving efforts as directed.
  • Lead fundraising strategy development surrounding Global Experiences in partnership with the faculty liaison for Global Experiences.
  • Write, develop, & recommend to the Vice President policies, procedures, & practices appropriate to institutional fundraising.
  • Maintain current knowledge of investment regulations, tax law, & IRS requirements; implement same for donors & the College
  • Complete annual assessment reports and assist in accreditation reporting.
  • Represent College Relations as part of the Institution’s Scholarship Committee.
  • Serve as liaison to the Program Advisory Committees, Foundation Committees, & other groups & individuals whose activities interface with private giving programs & activities.
  • Represent College Relations when Vice President is unavailable.
  • Compile information needed/requested by the Vice President relative to private giving programs & Foundation activities, & develop periodic status reports, an annual report or other reports as may be appropriate reflecting the progress of activities.
  • In collaboration with the Manager of Treasury Operations monitor performance of the invested funds & report to the Vice President on a regular basis any events affecting the value of the investments or requiring action.
  • Maintain an accurate cash forecast for all donations (receipts & investments).
  • Keep Foundation by-laws technically current; recommend to the Vice President modification of by-laws, policies & practices of the Foundation as appropriate.
  • Supervise the reconciliation of all bank accounts & investments monthly.
  • Develop systems to ensure adequate internal control of all aspects of cash receipts, disbursements & investments.
  • Act as the agent of the College in accepting gifts in accordance with the policies, procedures, & directives of the College.
  • Supervise the preparation & distribution of agendas, handouts & minutes for Foundation Board of Directors meetings; oversee mailing of meeting notices & other communications.

  • Provide supervision and oversight on all gift entry and recording.
  • Develop an annual plan & budget for Foundation & other activities and operations & recommend periodic modification of the activities & operations to the Vice President as appropriate.
