About The Position

The Executive Director of Operations is a full-time, 12-month administrator who provides leadership in the areas of facility, grounds, and maintenance operations. This position is responsible for ensuring education is delivered effectively and equitably to enrolled students in safe and operationally prepared facilities and locations while supervising staff to create and maintain a culture focused on customer service.

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) of the following:
  • (A) A Bachelor's or higher-level degree in School Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture and two (2) years of experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance or repair work, or construction management, one (1) year of which involved the supervision of employees
  • (B) An Associate's or higher-level degree in School Facilities Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Construction Technology, Architectural Technology and four (4) years of experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance or repair work, or construction management, one (1) year of which involved the supervision of employees; or
  • (C) Six (6) years of experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance or repair work, or construction management, (1) year of which must have involved the supervision of employees.
  • Possession of a valid New York State driver's license and certificates appropriate to the vehicles, equipment and/or machinery operated at time of appointment or during the course of employment consistent with the needs of the school district.
  • candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check.

Responsibilities

  • Work with building leaders to create and implement instructional spaces that support curriculum and instructional focus.
  • Makes recommendations to the Assistant Superintendent for Finance in the allocation of resources to support student learning.
  • Manage the sustainability program for the district, educate students and staff regarding proper facilities use and promote sustainability strategies.
  • Work with Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, Assistant Superintendent for Finance, Director of Technology, and building principals to ensure that instructional staff and classrooms are equipped with required instructional technology.
  • Coordinates initiatives with Director of STEAM to lead experiential learning related to environmental science, energy uses, safety, and sustainability.
  • Ensure decisions relating to District operations are executed within Board and Central Office policy.
  • Monitor and provide recommendations to ensure buildings and locations are safe, secure, and equipped to deliver excellent education programs.
  • Ensure the District is compliant with all applicable state and local laws related to facilities and operations.
  • Develop and oversee implementation of capital improvement plan.
  • Manage all capital projects for the district and serve as primary liaison with architects, construction managers, NYSED Facilities Planning and attorneys for construction matters.
  • Supervise the purchase of equipment and materials related to safety, facilities, and health services.
  • Manage the sustainability program for the district, educate students and staff regarding proper facilities use and promote sustainability.
  • Assists the Assistant Superintendent for Finance with capital planning as a member of the Facilities Planning Committee.
  • Conducts ongoing needs assessment to reduce cost and duplication of functions as it relates to the duplication and purchase of equipment, supplies, and facilities management.
  • Co-facilitates with the Director of Safety and Security the District Health and Safety committee.
  • Supervises and evaluates maintenance and operations staff.
  • In cooperation with the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, the Assistant Superintendent for Finance, and Principals, assists in the recruitment, selection and assignment of maintenance and operations team members.
  • Motivate and develop a competent staff to meet current and future department needs.
  • Provide updates to Supervisor and the district on relevant changes to state law and regulations in the operational areas of facilities and capital planning as it relates to the District's Five-Year Facilities Plan.
  • Creates and implements professional learning for maintenance and operations staff.
  • Provide positive constituent relations and community outreach.
  • In collaboration with Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources assists with the preparation of the district-wide budget and staffing proposals related to maintenance and operations staff.
  • Oversee District resources for operational initiatives.
  • Identify efficiencies in staff utilization and operational functions.
  • Identify alternative sources of funding for operational areas such as local, state, and federal grants and incentive programs.
  • Develop and manage department budget to ensure effective allocation of resources to meet operational objectives.
  • Make recommendations to the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Assistant Superintendent for Instruction in the allocation of resources to support student learning.
  • Participates in activities, which will lead to continued professional growth, including attendance at conferences, seminars and workshops.
  • Assist in the development of District policies, regulations and procedures related to the District's Maintenance and Operations.
  • Other duties may be required. Subject to the approval of the Superintendent.
