About The Position

The Executive Director of Business Optimization at Duke Health is a key leadership role focused on enhancing operational efficiency and productivity across the organization. This position is responsible for implementing standard processes, reducing complexity, and leveraging advanced analytics to drive informed business decisions that improve margins and labor productivity. Reporting to both the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, the Executive Director will lead organization-wide initiatives aimed at optimizing business strategies and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in a complex business environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to turn data into actionable insights.
  • Solid understanding of business and operational finance, P&L, and margin management.
  • Proven track record of leading transformation and change management initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences.
  • Strong business acumen to align strategy with business goals.
  • Ability to foster relationships and influence within a matrixed organization.
  • Knowledgeable in agile tactics and methodology.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze business strategies to identify and address negative-margin and low-margin segments.
  • Collaborate with leadership to optimize volume, labor, and productivity.
  • Enhance analytical tools for efficient labor productivity management.
  • Develop and execute margin improvement programs aligned with business goals.
  • Establish a business cadence to eliminate non-value-added complexity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for successful execution of complexity reduction initiatives.
  • Leverage business master data to gain insights into labor and productivity variances.
  • Utilize advanced analytics, AI, and machine learning for data-driven decision-making.
  • Automate repeatable tasks and drive process efficiencies.
  • Oversee training and development of team members and guide them in building performance dashboards.
