About The Position

The Executive Director of the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) at the University of Virginia will lead efforts to ensure ethical conduct in human subjects research, maintain accreditation standards, and facilitate compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This role involves strategic planning, oversight of Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), and collaboration with various departments to enhance the institution's research capabilities, particularly in clinical trials. The position requires a visionary leader committed to fostering a culture of transparency and accountability within the HRPP.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in human subject protections and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a strategic plan for the HRPP that aligns with organizational goals.
  • Lead initiatives to improve research compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Provide leadership that fosters a culture of excellence and collaboration within the HRPP.
  • Monitor risks to program success and develop risk management strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines, including AAHRPP accreditation and federal regulations.
  • Serve as the point of contact for federal regulatory agencies and oversee accreditation materials.
  • Provide leadership to the IRBs and ensure proper protocol review and compliance oversight.
  • Act as a resource for IRB members and investigators on regulatory issues and ethical considerations.
  • Coordinate with compliance and ethics professionals to promote ethical decision-making.
  • Collaborate with leadership to expand access to UVA clinical trials.
  • Lead training and mentoring for staff and study teams on best practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance the HRPP and adapt to changing requirements.
  • Engage in outreach and partnerships with other institutions and organizations.
