About The Position

Directs the financial planning, development and execution of finance and administration, including facilities, for the school of law within a broad and evolving portfolio of academic and complex duties, serving as the top law school financial steward. Serves as a strategic administrative partner to the law school leadership. Directs and manages the business affairs of the law school as well as oversee the Anheuser-Busch Hall (175k sf) and other campus facilities. Directs the Law School’s information technology team supporting faculty, students and staff. Identifies short- and long-term goals including workforce planning and oversees the allocation of resources to meet priorities and budget. Utilizes latitude and authority to influence decisions on a wide panorama of areas in units/departments including law school HR and payroll. Exhibits command and responsibility for problem resolutions and decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Management Provides comprehensive financial information, analysis and advice to optimize use of the law school’s financial resources and capital projects in support of the needs for the Dean, university leaders and other deans in the law school. Develop, refine, and maintain comprehensive financial models to support strategic planning and decision-making including analyzing financial data and business metrics to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement. Support the development of long-term financial strategies and risk assessments. Builds predictive models and forward-looking analyses including what if scenarios to understand impact of external factors and internal decisions Leads the law school-wide accounting, budgeting/planning and financial monitoring and compliance with regulations and procedures. Develops and monitors the school’s operating budget and use of restricted funds; annual tuition rates and scholarship/remission policy; financial projections of the school’s operating budget and reserves. Performs financial analysis to support decision making by the dean and other key administrators including, but not limited to, administration of law school salaries. Represents the school in all financial discussion and negotiations with the university’s central administration and other university units. Approves financial documents, particularly those requiring dean’s level approval.
  • Administration Ensures the efficiency and effectiveness of administration including administrative and financial services within the law school. Ensures high quality delivery of administrative services by providers outside the law school. Oversees effective utilization of law school payroll and human resources to attract, retain and hire a diverse and effective group of faculty and staff. Utilizes central HR teams for more in-depth HR service as needed including Employee Relations, Recruitment, Organizational Development, Compensation and HR Operations. Implements and maintains strong internal controls to provide reasonable assurance of effective and appropriate resource use, accurate financial information and adherence to contractual obligations and agreements, policies, procedures and external regulatory requirements to protect the assets, resources, information and reputation of the law school and the university.
  • Facilities Directs planning and vision for services and offers around the various facilities including the Anheuser-Busch Hall (home of the School of Law) with 175,000 square feet of space that includes various classrooms, library facilities, student computer laboratories, study areas, faculty offices and conference facilities. Directs the maintenance and construction activities for Law School buildings, monitoring and tracking of routine maintenance, custodial, Law School grounds, and other service requests by University Facilities Management and outside vendors. Leads the dedicated employees supporting this facility ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Technology Directs the IT needs of the school and develops structure, services, processes and systems that are efficiently aligned to meet the goals and objectives of department/school and its students. Ensures a high level of customer service is provided by these employees. Establishes, formulates and implements financial, administrative, physical plant and facilities and support services policies and guidelines.
