About The Position
CHECW aims to eliminate racial inequities resulting in premature mortality with a focus on chronic disease, by addressing the social and environmental factors that impact health. CHECW works to increase place-based investments in priority neighborhoods with community programming and services based on epidemiology; influence and leverage the health system to promote whole-person care; intensify the agency's approach to tackling big salt, sugar, and tobacco; and finding innovative ways to improve the built environment and address other social determinants of health. CHECW is comprised of the Bureau of Brooklyn Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Harlem Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention, the Bureau of Health Equity Capacity Building, the Bureau of Equitable Health Systems and the Bureau of Finance, Administration, and Services. The Bureau of Brooklyn Neighborhood Health (BBNH) champions the agency's mission to protect and promote the health of all New Yorkers. BBNH's catchment area includes North and Central Brooklyn, including the neighborhoods of Bedford Stuyvesant, Bushwick, East New York, and Brownsville. This bureau supports programming, planning, and recovery work to address racial and other social inequities resulting in premature mortality for neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by chronic disease and COVID-19 due to histories of systemic and structural inequities driven by racism and oppression. BNNH's array of programming includes chronic disease prevention, maternal health, research and evaluation, mental health and wellness, community engagement, partnership development, capacity building, policy development, and program planning. The Bureau of Brooklyn Neighborhood Health seeks to hire a Executive Director to ensure all bureau programs and initiatives are coordinated, implemented and aligned, to accomplish programmatic and administrative goals and objectives established by CHECW and the Commissioner of Health.
