About The Position

Recruit and oversee admissions process for Drury Law Enforcement Academy. Plan, organize, coordinate, and direct all aspects of the law enforcement academy and Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) for the University. Coordinate academy logistics with Drury Financial Aid, Registration, Finance and facility staff.

Requirements

• Master's degree preferred or in progress, Minimum of a bachelor's degree in area of law enforcement, police science, criminology, criminal justice, public administration, or related field and three years of experience in the field of public safety instruction or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ten years of law enforcement experience.
• Two years of progressively responsible supervisory or management experience in law enforcement or service-related field.
• Knowledge of Missouri P.O.S.T. regulations and accreditation standards including academy course sequencing, mandates, and minimum requirements.
• Possess a Generalist Instructional License from Missouri POST.
• Knowledge of modern law enforcement training philosophies and instructional requirements.
• Experience with computers and computer applications.
• Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local codes, laws, and regulations.
• Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping.
• Knowledge of basic mathematical principles.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
• Valid First Aid and CPR certificate issued by an authorized agency.
• Knowledge of lesson plan development and training program evaluation.
• Knowledge of performance monitoring and evaluation techniques.
• Knowledge of field conditions that influence training responses.
• Ability to plan instructional objectives, techniques, and methods and apply them in the training environment.
• Ability to research basic and complex training subject matters.
• Ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate training instructors, courses, and related equipment.
• Valid Driver's License and ability to drive a vehicle, and access to a dependable vehicle.
• Evening and weekend work required.

Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, and coordinate academy classes, training instructors, payroll and equipment need.
• Monitor classroom instruction to ensure that all mandated course material is delivered in an effective manner.
• Enforce all safety guidelines and regulations to ensure all training is delivered in a manner that is safe, effective, and in strict compliance with P.O.S.T. regulations.
• Conduct training / instruction in each academy class totaling 300 contact hours each. (no more than 160 as primary instructor).
• Coordinate Advisory Board.
• Recruit students for the Academy and oversee their admission.
• Market and promote the law enforcement academy.
• Promote continuing education and Drury University programming to new markets as opportunities are presented.
• Coordinate other P.O.S.T. certified courses as needed.
• Retain complete instructional records on each academy for a period of 5 years or longer if required by University policy, and student records indefinitely as required by P.O.S.T. regulations.
• Complete reports for the Office of Financial Aid.
• Participate in the hiring of academy personnel.
• Supervise, assign, train, and evaluate academy personnel.
• Meet with academy personnel in order to assess training and recruiting procedures and implement changes as appropriate.
• Supervise and assist in the discipline and counseling of academy recruits.
• Apply P.O.S.T. policies affecting the discipline and termination requirements as they relate to academy recruits.
• Demonstrate objectiveness when evaluating the need for disciplinary action.
• Implement and monitor all University, academy, and P.O.S.T. policies and procedures to ensure adherence of such policies and procedures by all academy personnel and recruits.
• Develop budget and monitor accounts to ensure they remain within budget.
• Approve expenditures.
• Maintain facility and equipment adequately to deliver safe and effective basic training.
• Coordinate needed repairs or replacements.
• Serve as a voting member of the Continuing Studies Council.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
• Coordinate / provide training to the Drury Security Department personnel.
• Look for other ways to collaborate with Drury Security to provide hands-on opportunities for Academy students as appropriate.
• Coordinate Certificate Award Ceremony.
• Oversee alumni Facebook page of Academy graduates.
• Collaborate with Advancement team on updating alumni records to include Academy certificate graduates.
• Work with Drury GO team to promote other Drury GO programs to LEA graduates, including Badge to Bachelors.
