Executive Chef / Dining Manager Birch Creek Assisted Living - Logan, UT About Birch Creek Birch Creek Assisted Living is a respected community in Smithfield where residents are known by name and daily life centers around shared experiences. Food plays an important role in that culture, as meals are social, celebratory, and something residents genuinely look forward to. At a Glance Schedule: Cooking days Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday: 6am-2pm Planning day: Thursdays for menu development, ordering, staff development, and administrative work: 9am-5pm Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of cooks, prep cooks, and servers Culinary program: Scratch cooking, two lunch entrées daily, bistro and snack bar, daily soup Creative input: Ability to shape menus and respond to resident preferences Work-life balance: Consistent schedule and a stable kitchen environment At Birch Creek Assisted Living, dining is far more than a meal-it's an experience. Residents gather around the table for connection and comfort, and our kitchen plays a central role in that daily rhythm. Unlike many senior living kitchens, Birch Creek is deeply committed to scratch cooking and chef-driven menus. Our kitchen prepares daily meals from scratch, offers two entrée options at lunch, maintains a stocked bistro and snack bar throughout the day, and serves a soup of the day with fresh bread. We also celebrate residents' birthdays by preparing their favorite meal for the entire community. We are looking for a Dining Manager/Executive Chef who believes great food brings people together and who is excited to lead a team that makes these experiences possible. The Executive Chef leads our dining department and the team that prepares and serves meals each day. This leader oversees menu creation using our culinary software, manages ordering and inventory, maintains a clean and organized kitchen, manages the department budget, trains and develops team members, and coordinates schedules for cooks, prep cooks, and servers. While we use culinary software for planning and consistency, our Executive Chef has the freedom to shape menus, highlight seasonal ingredients, and respond to the tastes and preferences of our residents. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building a strong team and helping others succeed. The right candidate is steady under pressure and invested in creating a workplace where staff feel capable and appreciated. We value leaders who bring a calm presence to the kitchen-someone who mentors their team, creates a positive work environment, and approaches busy days with confidence and teamwork. Just as importantly, they believe that food should feel generous and comforting. The Executive Chef works a consistent weekly schedule, spending four days in the kitchen cooking alongside the team on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Thursdays are reserved as an office and planning day for menu development, ordering, budgeting, scheduling, and administrative responsibilities. This role reports directly to the Executive Director and Assistant Director and plays an important leadership role in the community's daily life. This position offers a consistent schedule and the opportunity to continue doing creative, meaningful culinary work while enjoying a more balanced lifestyle than traditional restaurant kitchens. Birch Creek offers a supportive environment where hospitality and teamwork matter. Benefits include PTO, health, dental, vision, and life insurance, mental health resources for employees and their families, and a 401(k) retirement plan. If you believe that food should bring people together and want to lead a dining program that truly impacts people's lives, we would love to meet you.
