About The Position

The Exchange Architect is responsible for the design, architecture, and technical governance of Microsoft Exchange Online within Microsoft 365. This role leads complex email, calendaring, and collaboration initiatives, ensuring secure, scalable, and highly available messaging solutions aligned to business and compliance requirements. The architect works closely with security, identity, endpoint, and collaboration teams and serves as the technical authority for Exchange related decisions across the tenant. Design and architect enterprise‑scale Microsoft Exchange environments (on‑prem, hybrid, and Exchange Online) Lead migrations from legacy Exchange versions to Exchange Online, ensuring minimal disruption and strong governance. Define messaging standards, security controls, retention policies, and high‑availability strategies. Design, Build and test PowerShell solutions for both exchange on-prem and M365 exchange online environments Strong proficiency with industry wide core email technologies and SMTP Strong proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain Exchange Online architecture within Microsoft 365, including: Mail flow (inbound, outbound, hybrid) SMTP relay Transport rules, connectors, and routing
  • Define reference architectures for: Exchange Online–only tenants Hybrid Exchange (on premises + Exchange Online) Cross tenant migrations and coexistence
  • Ensure alignment with M365 security, identity, and compliance architectures
  • Lead and design email migrations from: Exchange Server (2013/2016/2019) Third party platforms (Google Workspace, Lotus Notes, etc.)
  • Define migration strategies, tools, and sequencing (cutover, staged, hybrid)
  • Oversee legacy Exchange decommissioning and dependency cleanup
  • Architect solutions leveraging: Exchange Online Protection (EOP) Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Retention policies and litigation hold
  • Partner with security teams on: Phishing and spam mitigation Zero Trust email architecture DMARC, DKIM, SPF implementation
