About The Position

The Exceptional Student Services Director at Pueblo School for Arts and Sciences (PSAS) is responsible for overseeing the delivery of specialized instruction and support for students with individualized education plans (IEPs). This role involves collaborating with teachers, staff, and administration to ensure that all students receive the necessary support to meet their educational goals. The director will manage the ESS caseload, coordinate IEP meetings, and provide both push-in and pull-out support to students as needed. The position emphasizes a commitment to the school's mission of providing a robust education based on Paideia Principles, focusing on social emotional learning and critical thinking.

Requirements

  • MA degree from an accredited college or university in special education or related field.
  • Colorado Teaching Endorsement in Special Education or ability to enroll in a Teacher education program.
  • Completion of Science of Reading training within 3 months of hiring.
  • Previous experience teaching in K-8 or K-12 environment (preferred).
  • Demonstrated technology proficiencies in Microsoft Office and electronic gradebook.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous administration experience including evaluating certified staff.
  • Verifiable experience dealing with conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge and experience with IDEA 2004.
  • CPI Trained and Certified.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute an elementary-high program anchored in the Colorado State Standards and Paideia Principles.
  • Develop activities that support units of instruction, including field trips and community service projects.
  • Instruct and support the development of student behavior that fosters a positive learning environment.
  • Design and implement interventions that differentiate instruction and create engaging educational experiences.
  • Manage and coordinate a team of teachers and paraprofessionals to support students in achieving their learning goals.
  • Advocate for students on special plans to ensure their accommodations and goals are met.
  • Evaluate and record student academic performance using pre-established grading tools.
